Senior Abbott government minister Malcolm Turnbull expects parliament to legalise same-sex marriage before the end of the year.
"I have never seen a social issue which has changed attitudes as rapidly as this one," the communications minister told ABC radio this morning, adding his feeling was that legislation was "very likely to pass".
A debate on a Greens bill could start as early as mid-June, but any vote on the issue is likely to fail until coalition MPs are allowed a conscience vote.
Fellow cabinet minister Ian Macfarlane says while same-sex marriage isn't a frontline issue for the government, he's open to having the issue discussed in the Liberal partyroom.

Seems like good news. Moving away from Abbott's position on the issue though which could be interesting.

Turnbull has been a vocal supporter of same sex marriage, he's pissed off a lot of Liberal MP's from stepping away from the party policy

Turnbull is one of a small few in the LNP who really believes in the "Liberal" aspect of the party.

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young will on Tuesday announce plans for the Greens to use allotted Senate time on June 18 to start debate on her private member's bill to legalise same-sex marriage, Fairfax reports.
The party has also set November 12 for a Senate vote on the bill.
I just don't understand how Tony himself can be against it when he has a gay sister. Like really.
It should past the Senate if enough people have the balls to not toe the part line. The Green as much as I hate them and David Leyonhjelm will vote yes. I have no idea about the independents.

Xenophon previously vote for gay marriage

I ask the question why is it called the liberal party when it seems nothing of the sort.
Who really knows

Back when they were founded they were liberal because unlike Labor they were free trade. They believed in the liberalization of the economy.

There's conservatives labour parties in the world that don't believe in the word "labour" so honestly while it's confusing it's just easier to say "the coalition" or the conservatives
