In a stunning development, a star center for a Canadian high school basketball team was exposed as a 30-year-old African refugee, leading to his being detained in connection with the Immigration Refugee Protection Act.
Source. Here is a workout video of him from February: He doesn't even look 17.
How the heck does this even happen.

Didn't a story exactly like this come out a few months ago, only it was some Eastern European dude at a spelling bee or something? Does nobody check for identification before they enroll someone in school?
This is a movie plot

I felt bad for him, he was just trying to start a new life away from a country where he had nothing to return to.
As he's a refugee, I imagine he didn't have identification when he fled his home country.
Oh, I'm an idiot.. I suppose the issue is that even though the school probably checked his papers when he enrolled, when he showed up and got the papers he said he was 17 :v:
leading to his being detained in connection with the Immigration Refugee Protection Act.
Nice.
