Credit: Reuters/China Daily BEIJING | Mon Dec 26, 2011 3:45am EST (Reuters) - China launched a super-rapid test train over the weekend which is capable of travelling 500 kilometers per hour, state media said on Monday, as the country moves ahead with its railway ambitions despite serious problems on its high-speed network. The train, made by a subsidiary of CSR Corp Ltd, China's largest train maker, is designed to resemble an ancient Chinese sword, the official Xinhua news agency reported. It "will provide useful reference for current high-speed railway operations," it quoted train expert Shen Zhiyun as saying. But future Chinese trains will not necessarily run at such high speeds, CSR chairman Zhao Xiaogang told the Beijing Morning News. "We aims to ensure the safety of trains operation," he said. China's railway industry has had a tough year, highlighted by a collision between two high-speed trains in July which killed at least 40 people. Construction of new high-speed trains in China has since been a near halt. In February, the railways minister, Liu Zhijun, a key figure behind the boom in the sector, was dismissed over corruption charges that have not yet been tried in court.[/release] http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/26/us-china-train-idUSTRE7BP04N20111226 This train is very fast
Motherfuckin China.
I wanna put a penny on its track and watch it run it over
I wanna put a penny on its track and watch it run it over
It's probably derail the train knowing Chinese craftsmanship.
It's probably derail the train knowing Chinese craftsmanship.
And it's made of lead so it poisons the entire surrounding countryside.
make it do a loop
This train is very fast
Thanks, cap'.
make it do a loop
??
Not going to end well.
That better be some strong Styrofoam.
I for one hope it succeeds with flying colors so maybe the US will get our heads out of our asses and see it's a viable alternative to local air. I fucking HATE flying local.
You could get to the moon in roughly 32 days at that speed.
Spoiler alert: [sp]the train explodes immediately after leaving the assembly line[/sp]
Spoiler alert: [sp] The 500 kilometers per hour was obtained by explosion, hence the [/sp]
But future Chinese trains will not necessarily run at such high speeds,
It's just a matter of time until the train derails and destroys everything.
Should be interesting to watch it derail. Sorry, china, but I don't have any faith in it. Not if any of the stuff I buy at the store is anything to go by regarding your craftsmanship. Take Nashville to Memphis. I could drive that trip in six hours or so for about 80 bucks worth of gasoline, or, I could book a flight, spend three hours in security boarding it, an hour sitting on the tarmac, two in the air, another hour sitting on the tarmac in memphis, three more hours in security disembarking, all for the oh-so-fair price of a few hundred bucks. IMO, if you aren't flying at least a thousand miles you're wasting your time and money, and even then it should only be if you're time strapped.
gotta go fast

Your Nashville to Memphis flight is longer than a fight to Hawaii. Checking in is usually only a big problem on International flights. There can be long lines on Domestic flights but it all depends on when you get there, and when you booked your flight. On all the domestic flights I've been on, checking and security was basically empty. And this is coming from someone that get's patted down and x-rayed because my metal hip sets off the detector every time. And theres no security when you're in Arrivals. You just wait for your bag to come and go. Unless you're going international, then you have to go through Customs which can be a bitch. I flew from Houston to Dallas in about an 1-2 and a half hours max from getting to the airport in Houston from leaving in Dallas. International fights are a bitch because the checking area is usually packed and then you have to all funnel through TSA. Then once you're done with your long flight you have to go through Customs. Domestic isn't bad though. [editline]28th December 2011[/editline] In fact, I flew from Houston to Dallas, then drove from Dallas to Houston in that same day. Flying was definitely faster, though I do enjoy a good road trip.
Imagine if track gauge was wider-set (distance between tracks). If there was like 10 foot between the tracks, you could literally go around corners at ridiculous speed without any chance of tipping over, take a lot more passengers in a shorter train, and perhaps even have more rails, wheels and engines underneath to go even faster.

it won't travel at 500 km/h, even if that's its max speed. bullet trains in japan are capable of similar speeds but they cant go full speed due to the noise lol
And it's made of lead so it poisons the entire surrounding countryside.
FYI. The Chinese government has been working on the envirovement side of things so that it's citizens don't get poisoned and suffer long term illness. This isn't 1980 anymore. *edit* and I mean preventing "lol lets dump our poisonous byproduct into a river that the folks downriver use for everything"

Even with my inefficient ride, all 15-17MPG worth, it's not cost-effective to fly until I'm going beyond the Rockies. Even still I'd rather drive. If I want to carry more than a couple ounces of liquid I can, there's no TSA jerk telling me that can of coke in my hand is a bomb in disguise, there's no drunk guy in the grateful dead T-shirt and fuck you hat slamming margaritas in the seat next to me, and if I want to detour on a whim I can. My personal rule of thumb: If I can drive there, I will drive there. I only fly if there's an ocean in the way.
I only see flying as a good alternative if it's literally across the entire country and or ocean.
''The six-car train with a fairshaped head is the newest in the CRH series. It has a maximum tractive power of 22,800 kilowatts, compared with 9,600 kilowatts for the CRH380 trains currently in service on the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, which hold the world speed record of 300 km per hour.'' 22.800 kilowatts, that's around 30.000 horsepower.
I'm honestly so fucking pissed that the florida Governor refused funds that were already existing and in place to build bullet trains.
I'm honestly so fucking pissed that the florida Governor refused funds that were already existing and in place to build bullet trains.
Yeah, I noticed USA is pretty far behind with transports. Still using the old trains?
I guess we lost the "WE NEED BETTER SHIT THEN EVERYONE!" mentality after the cold war. In everything but planes I mean. [editline]28th December 2011[/editline] Besides. My governor is a corrupt douche bag. You don't fucking elect someone into office who has committed HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars in GOVERNMENT FRAUD! [editline]28th December 2011[/editline] Worse part. The election was only a couple of thousands of votes off.
Yeah, I noticed USA is pretty far behind with transports. Still using the old trains?
still using diesel locomotives it seems. a bullet train would require new tracks so i kind of understand why they don't have those, but replacing the old diesel locomotives with electric ones would be a good idea.
still using diesel locomotives it seems.
Jesus christ, Even here in the UK we're using electrical rail.
