Those of you who checked our front page yesterday might have read about the Note 5 Marshmallow update hitting a forum member’s device, and about a subsequent system dump. Now, we can actually boot into Marshmallow thanks to the community!
TouchWiz on Marshmallow has changed in various ways, and after a few hours of testing it last night and this early morning, I can bring plenty of information about its changes. First and foremost, you’ll be pleased to know I found no memory management issues at all during my usage with the ROM. That being said, this is clearly a test version of Marshmallow and is likely not final, so some things might change come the final release later in December.
The user interface abandoned the stock color palette of TouchWiz for one predominantly white, with the same green accents of the old tradition. The interface does look pretty bad in my opinion, but nobody expected a revamped TouchWiz, and themes will still be able to sort out the color palette. The notification panel now animates with a subtle Material-like expansion, however, which looks nice and it generally flows better as well. The expanded quick settings changed slightly from the Note5, from the edit button to the fact that S-Finder is no longer present in the status bar as a persistent search button, but has been turned into a toggle instead. In general, the UI has been cleaned up with new animations and the settings have been sorted. Some applications also received a paint job.
Looks fairly decent, at least TouchWiz is improving, still wouldn't use it over stock tho.
would use/10
It actually looks pretty decent. Wouldn't use it over stock, but I definitely see its improvements. Doesn't look half bad either.

what's the difference between stock and touchwiz?
Looks fairly decent, at least TouchWiz is improving, still wouldn't use it over stock tho.
i would never use it over stock
It looks literally as bad as zenui which is what I'm using right now. Will pass/10.
Still not sure why anyone wouldn't use stock Android; it's nearly always going to be faster than an OEM frontend, and if you want to slow it down afterwards you can just download a launcher that, in most cases, adds more features than OEM launchers have anyways.
I am stuck using touchwiz. I am on a samsung s6 on att. They force over the air updates so everytime a root gets out, its instantly patched.
Its ridiculous
I'm still waiting for Marshmallow for my phone.

I wonder...maybe if people bombard that "it can wait" campaign with negative press about how AT&T has such shitty practices like these, they might take a fucking hint. If when they run ads people see it bombarded with horror stories of AT&T being assholes, then that campaign goes to waste for them quite easily.

Yeah they forced an update that essentially broke my phone at one point. I was not pleased with that.

Better still: make up stuff about how AT&T's shitty practices could theoretically get people killed.

Actually have a true story, kind of similar to life/dead but not really, I was walking with a dude and he fell and got his leg stuck under something, and a different shitty updated forced by AT&T, caused my phone to randomly freeze. So I went to call 911 to get him some help, and my phone wouldn't unlock because it was having one of it's "fuck you I'm frozen" moments.
[editline]17th November 2015[/editline]
It's also shut down to update in the middle of a call, ironically with them complaining about my shitty internet service.

because we don't know how to / don't want to void our phone's warranty?

Seriously though, if you have AT&T it will just get reset when they force an update anyway. Because for some reason that can't be disabled even with custom ROMS.

i'm on verizon, won't reset
I know that stock android is better, having it on my Nexus 7 (2013) but I personally never had big problems with the TouchWiz on my Galaxy S2. It did what I wanted and didn't feel that bad.

So you loading a custom ROM would be fine - but anyone with AT&T is fucked.

for me, touchwiz consistently shits the bed, sometimes becoming completely unresponsive. such as: lagging on the screen turning on, unlocking the phone, opening an app. i hate it
No longer on my S4 but wow at least they changed the color scheme.
I don't know who looked at this and said "yes, this is the most likely to appeal to everyone:"

Looks like a brighter version of what I have.

I don't get why they continue to use that blue colour for the notification pan. It's ugly af to me. I wish they'd at least use the stock notification pan colours on 6.0, rather than that gaudy blue.
At the very least I'd love to be able to change the colors. I got an S5 on ATT and to say the least: never again. Locked bootloader and OTA updates. Can't even use xposed. Good thing I got 5.0 and kept root through flashfire. From there you can freeze the update service. Dunno what I'll go with next time. Maybe a Note with stock, if I can get one unlocked that isn't a billion dollars.
I actually like the light blue color on my Note 4...
better idea
leave the light blue color, but let us *gasp* change it

S6 and newer TouchWiz versions do let you change shit with themes.
