[QUOTE]Looks like Microsoft is doing what many users want by delivering the ability to send SMS text messages from your PC to your phone. Signs of this feature are rampant especially with the recent preview release of Messaging and the Phone apps for Windows 10 PCs – the same universal app as found on Windows 10 Mobile.
Now, WinBeta have posted a video that demonstrates this feature is indeed coming with Cortana handling the heavy lifting of the process.

So, basically this is to Windows Mobile as OS X Messages is to iPhone?

Can Australia get Cortana in the first place please, FFS?!
This isn't new at all. Just a new way to do it.
In my time if you had a modem you sent out pager message strings to a cellular number and the phone converted it to an SMS page.
Ignoring google voice/hangouts, the sms-email gateway has existed for ages.
This is totally not new, its just pretty.
But if we have android phone we are screw with this new feature ?
If yes I dont care ...

You can use Hangouts for that if you have a Google Voice number (which I'm not sure exists in Canada).
This will be abused some how trust me.
It won't let me do that. Do I have to do some special setting or something?

It will make SMS automation much easier for average programmer Joes.
Or you could just get mysms for Android and windows 8+

Who knows
I already cortana on my device
maybe it would become a requirement for the service
I used to use an application called DeskSMS (from CWM team), was a paid service that ended up dead before I had the chance to tap into the api
Well when cortana comes to canada on windows 10, thats neat, until then, this affects me in no way
I'm fairly sure this isn't Cortana exclusive. In a different video I watched, it looks like it's in the messaging client as well - but bugged.
Now Microsoft can spy on your SMS messages too!

Thanks for all your info :D
good to know anyway, but any I dont use party software to sms people but if it was integrated maybe, and or else sometimes i use Airdroid its very usefull also :D
Edit : I use this because I use it already for backuping stuff and use cam from phone :)
I used AIM to send text messages to phones in the olden days
Does anyone know if this, or a similar program, exists for iPhone to Windows? This looks Windows-phone exclusive, although I may be wrong.
this will be better for typing at least
"oh I'm at my computer anyways, my keyboard is better than a touchscreen / BT KB, may as well do it here"

android has stuff like this too but I'm not sure if it's THAT good

this is extremely useless to anyone who has skype actually
This is handy to me as I don't get reception in certain areas of my house, does it hook up to your phone or does it do it via wireless? This could become very handy for me

For not it would be
Until then, I think pushbullet has proper ios sms support
this could potentially get me to switch ecosystems, its the main reason I use OS X and an iPhone. If Windows can offer the same functionality im all for it.

Sadly it's exclusive to Android. Cheers for the suggestion, though.
I'd love for linux to be able to text as my android
iChat has been able to do this for more than a decade.
i'm confused how this is a shocking feature, i can already pretty much send a message from my laptop to my phone, just not sms
