So I found out last night that W8 was using only a gig of RAM which would explain for some memory issues, the computer recognises that I have 8gb of RAM and I read that to achieve Windows from using unlimited amounts was to input 0 in system ram required in the advanced boot options in MSCONFIG which made a lot of sense when I'm dead tired Instead, this has fucking backfired and now I'm fucked, my only option is to refresh the PC (which won't get rid of everything and is due for a cleanout) but will that work? Anyway in a bit of a pickle haha shit [editline]31st March 2014[/editline] Can't even refresh it either because I need the windows installation disc, but I bought the damn thing online
Eh, can't you boot in safe mode? Doesn't that load default settings?
Eh, can't you boot in safe mode? Doesn't that load default settings?
Nah it still keeps giving me the bsod
do you have a second computer on hand? could use that to get the image file burned/added to a USB
Only second computer is this one that I'm typing on but it's windows 7 I'm the only computer in the household running windows 8
Only second computer is this one that I'm typing on but it's windows 7 I'm the only computer in the household running windows 8
at least you have another computer, so you can use that to burn your win8 image file to a CD or make a USB/portable HDD bootable with it
at least you have another computer, so you can use that to burn your win8 image file to a CD or make a USB/portable HDD bootable with it
How do I go about doing that when I can't even enter into Windows, only the advanced tools options?
use your second computer! you said you bought it online, so you must have the image somewhere? I am now attempting to pull off some files from the HDD since WIndows wont budge to anything I try, I put linux on a usb stick and I'm having a hard time trying to access it Keeps mentioning that Windows is still running despite that I press F8 on my bios menu to jump to the boot menu and hasn't been started up since Also says it cant be mounted for that reason, what now
I've fucking tried everything, it's useless

That doesn't make sense, you should just be able to mount the Windows drive. If it's unmountable there's something either wrong with the Windows partition or Linux

It should be the equivalent to root
Sudo ask me for my password for the Linux user, I've also put my normal windows 8 PW in there as well, all it does is nothing
Bump because I'm back home next week and I just need to know some ideas to solve this issue
Bump because I'm back home next week and I just need to know some ideas to solve this issue
Plug the drive into the win 7 computer. If you know what file msconfig edited, change it and stick it back in the other computer. If msconfig edits the registry, there are tons of free bootable registry editors.
pretty sure you can download the official ISO from Microsoft.
You have a link?
You have a link?
http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-iso/
A friend of mine used his Windows 8 key to upgrade to 8.1.
http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-iso/
Yeah but I will need to be logged in to do that, I need the ISO file from the very beginning. I'm also missing my product activation key but I'm trying to figure out where that code was. [editline]17th April 2014[/editline] Is it possible I could retrieve my product key over the phone by providing the paypal email and other details I used to get that key? And would just downloading the ISO from somewhere get me to refresh my PC, because that's all I really need to do [editline]17th April 2014[/editline]
Have your product key handy. You can find it in your online order info, in the confirmation email for your purchase, or on the DVD packaging. The product key is a 25-character code that looks something like this: XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX- XXXXX.
I don't know which account I got the email to, it's either any of my 3 email accounts which is fine but I need to find what the senders name was Typing microsoft or windows only brings me spam promotions from MS along with WP dev information which is no use to me [editline]17th April 2014[/editline] NVM found this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/lost-my-windows-8-product-key-and-confirmation-e/529e1118-b230-4f95-b936-ba3f163b8c38 I'll give this a spin when I get the chance and see if it works [editline]17th April 2014[/editline] Alright found the Paypal transactions record on the upgrade for $14.99AUD Got most of the details from it so I'll use this when I get home
Fixed it MS support gave me my Windows 8 key but I found out that, putting that key onto an ISO or USB stick won't repair the computer because it's W8.1, makes no fucking sense but alright The fuckwit on the phone said I needed to format the entire drive, no thank you What I did then was download Windows 8.1 from somewhere else, put it on a DVD and inserted into my computer, gave it a fresh install and it's working good as new [editline]21st April 2014[/editline] Thanks everyone who tried to assist, this should never happen again
