But in truth, puritanical societies are less morally alert, because the puritanical societies have the judgments pre-packaged and their hypocrisies, too. In France however, the moral rights and wrongs, I've learned, are adjudicated case-by-case. I recall a Parisian woman whose husband was ill but whose lover had a stroke - which, she wondered, demanded her attention more? The circumstance might have seemed absurd, but the reasoning was anything but amoral. Indeed, the French movie director Eric Rohmer's great films are called "moral tales" exactly because they are all about the unsettled nature of desire - about whether, say, the sight of a teenage girl's knee on the beach is worth cancelling a wedding over. Morality may be permanent, but sexual ethics among adults are situational - they depend on this knee at this moment on this beach, and on all the other knees nearby. The people so engaged have to think morally, rather than just pantomiming its practice, as we Anglo-Saxons (a term that in French usage includes New York Jews and London Muslims) do.
Then why even get married?
I have to wonder if people today feel forced to get married.
I see so many unhappy and unfaithful relationships, it is as you say "then why even bother marrying to begin with?"

Trouble arises when someone marries who has no respect for the institution.

Is it like blowfish? You cut it wrong and suddenly it's all poisonous?

It's laced with poison more frequently than other kinds of cake.

Please don't take this as a fact I am speculating wildly.

Yeah mostly what happens now a days is some dude gets a girl pregnant and feels obligated to marry her then the marriage is over in less then two years.
I'm so fucking sick of hearing of girls "baby daddies". Fuck man use a condom.

I agree completely, It makes me sick hearing about people marrying out of "Obligation" rather than love

Theirs so many people that obviously just arn't going to be happy in monogamous relationships, yet sadly do not question it.
truthfully people do, At least my goal in life is to find a girl to love, get married, and raise a family
I don't know about family or marriage, but I do know I want to find a girl you love. And you know the most important thing is she's got to be someone who can be my best friend, because one day the honeymoon's gonna be over, and you're gonna want to be with somebody who'll never mind hanging around with. Someone who likes doing the stuff I like doing, bonding together when having fun, or just every day things. That's what a companion is after all, isn't it? Someone to share the experiences of life with? The second most important thing is nice titties.

The number of maniacally unhappy polyamorous people I've met even outweighs the number of monogamous people in the same situation. For fuck's sake, I don't care about the way your ~boyfriend looked at your friend lustingly or about how your ~girlfriend looks at her brother's friend.
fucking french and their exciting love lives in comparison to mine

Human nature is a sin against purity.

Or, the left over moldy rotten food in the back of the fridge (the things unneeded for a sentient individual) are spoiling the good food in the front of the fridge (the conscious thought of a sentient individual that can make decisions based on rationality and morality instead of boners).
Puritans want the good food, and I guess...
Actually the analogy makes perfect sense. The French do like their food aged.

This exactly, I've had plenty of friends who hate their significant other who they constantly say how they hate eachother and have little interest in common. He'll one got his girlfriend pregnant saying how bad he wanted a kid and wanted to get married. This was after weeks of bitching how annoying she is. I'll never understand people.
