• Much faster speed going into router than coming out!

Hi, In my router status page, I see: DownStream Connection Speed 2240 kbps When doing a computer speedtest (PC, connected to router with gigabit ethernet) I only get 1630kbps. My router is a Netgear DG834G How do I get the full speed into my computer?
-snip, misread-
How exactly does that answer my question? I'm saying that the speed coming into my router from outside and the speed going from router to my computer are a lot different.
You paid for UP TO 2240kbps.

Well according to your router, your ISP is only giving you 2240/448kbps
So the ISP is giving me 2440kbps, why am I getting on my computer 1700kbps?

I can download from high-speed servers at 207kB/s Shouldn't 2440kbps be 270kB/s ?
yes Edit: 2240kbit/s = 280 KByte/s you typo'd and said 2440 though
kB is kilobytes, KB is kilobits.
kB is kilobytes, KB is kilobits.
nope, lowercase is bits, uppercase is bytes
So is it worth getting a new router and hoping it gets to 2440kbps? [editline]10:26PM[/editline] Or ringing ISP and complaining about how I get 2mbit instead of 8mbit?

Well, the first result was on the London server (nearest to me). I tried it with Paris:

I tried DownThemAll, exactly the same speed as without it.
How exactly does that answer my question? The problem is that speedtest isn't always the most accurate. It all depends on their load. It's also possible that the speed your router is showing you is just the maximum transfer rate it's seen since it's last reboot, and not what you'll be getting all of the time.
