• Lets say the universe is infinite. What possibilities are there?

One major theory about our housing giant, the universe, is it may be too vast for numbers. I.E., infinite. This means an infinite number of possibilities is bound. There can be trillions of copies you reading the same thing created by another Cjmax. TF2 is applicable in real life somewhere. Alternate versions of us can fly somewhere. Every possibility ever has already happened and more, infinite times. Keep in mind this is simply a theory. So, what kind if possibilities can you think of, and perhaps would like to experience?
somewhere in time I actually got laid :J
Infinite possibilities.
A more evolved version of the human race, when we have past our wars and learned to love and respect the Cosmos.
The Universe is an effectively infinite amount of space with only a finite amount of matter, which means there's only so many possibilities before you run out, including possibilities which aren't possible due to existing universal laws. There are some arguments to be said about a Multiverse though, which would mean there can be a near infinite amount of universes where a near infinite amount of possibilities exist, including ones that don't obey "natural" (ie, our universe's) physical/temporal laws. In other words, there is a very real possibility of there being anything you can imagine somewhere, only issue is it may not even exist in our reality.
Well no, there is infinite space, not infinite matter, and thus not a 100% (or even remotely close) chance that some alternative version of our world. What you have there is a Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy-kind of argument. EDIT: Well shit. Now you know twice.
EDIT: Well shit. Now you know twice.
You mean I know infinite times :v:
The biggest thing for me is that when you grab a super-duper computer to randomly generate 800 x 600 black and white pictures and wait until it does every possible combination of pixels you will have every possible painting, photograph, drawing, anything in there. Imagine taking a 800 x 600 black and white camera and making a photo of an alien civilization. Then taking pictures of you naked being raped by a bear, these images will be there. Imagine your wildest dream, every frame of that dream will be there. My mind is blowing. Someone do the math and calculate how many unique pictures are possible to generate in that digital format.
Actually, if the universe was infinite by definition, there could be a habitable planet with someone that an exact copy of yourself.
I'm not sure about this. Let's take numbers for example, they are infinite but there is only one number "1", one number "2", "3" and so on.
A theory is something that has physical evidence backing it, yo. And just because there's infinite random rolls, it doesn't mean all values will happen. Besides, unless mass and energy are infinite that would mean the average mass/ volume density is 0, so an infinite portion of the universe is empty. If mass is infinite then gravity is infinite so all forces would have to be infinite as well to stop shit from going all over the place. this is mathematically possible, though. ( I think)
One major theory about our housing giant, the universe, is it may be too vast for numbers. I.E., infinite. This means an infinite number of possibilities is bound.
A universe in which this theory does not apply.
This explains it pretty well.
Lots of cool shit we'll probably never see or experience.
Are you talking about different planets within our universe, or the theory of parallel universes? Sure, it's possible that there could be alternate versions of ourselves in this universe, but isn't it usually the Multiverse theory covers that? Either way, it's eerie to think about past events in the world that could change due to one event. Somewhere, it's possible that Hitler was never born. It's also possible that somewhere, Hitler succeeded. Probably not the best example, but it works.
say that the universe is infinite and there is an infinite amount of matter then surely there would be an infinite amount of everything
If the universe were infinitely large (it probably isn't) it doesn't mean everything that shows up in it must show up again an infinite number of times, just like every irrational number doesn't have every possible finite sequence of numbers in it somewhere.
why not?
hey look here's a number with an infinitely long decimal expansion that never repeats: .010010001000010000010000001... but you're never going to find ...1234567890... in there

half life 3
half life 3
Not in any of the infinite universes.
What possibilities are there? Well, all of them.
Infinite women!
Infinite women!
even better, infinite men
Well, one thing that isn't so much a possibility, and more of an unseen definite, is that there are other civilisations out there in the cosmos; perhaps some still sharpening sticks and cooking planesrunner breasts over a fire pit, maybe some struggling to survive in a radioactive hell of their own making, possibly a culture that roams as nomads between star systems seeking out resources to maintain the "Great Caravan", that kind of stuff. With an essentially infinite universe, one could hardly believe Earth to be the only flowering lotus in the vast desert, and hell, we might even run into ourselves, or something very similar to ourselves, at least once if we went far enough.
Catgirls would be a reality somewhere.
Catgirls would be a reality somewhere.
Possibly, though they'd be rather different from the imagined physiology; if there are sapient felinoids somewhere, i'd guess they'd probably be like big cats with thumbs.
Pretty interesting...
I like to think of all the possibilities TF2 composed of just Nicolas Cage Half Life 3 Actually came out. Valve Time is the same as normal time
