Hey whats up guys? Looking forward to making facepunch my home as it has plenty of categories I enjoy. I came to the art category first as I have an important question that I'm hoping fellow artists can help me with! I'm pure OUT of creative juices at the moment. This is somewhat of a problem as I am currently an MGD student at the college I'm attending, and soon to be one at fullsail university. I LOVE MGD (multimedia and graphic design) it just moves me. I do it all, from 3D modelling to photoshop. But I can't seem to get inspired lately! What do you guys do when you just plum are out of ideas? ANY advice appreciated. Hope you guys can help as I'm getting a little desperate here.
I don't know, I just listen to music.
Heavy Metal helps with everything for me.
Also, just a hint, but dont use faces like :|, xD, :D, etc. in Facepunch.
Here is a list of all the emotes. Use them instead.
thanks for the heads up! It's a dirty habit I've developed from windows live messenger. Music is a great start I think. Thanks for the idea!
im always very creative and sooooo random LOL! i get most of my inspiration from anime and its rly rly cool! so im never runing out of ideas!
hmm I do watch a lot of anime. My main problem is that any idea I get from other media I almost feel like I'm stealing from someone else. I guess I need to get over that.

It is a troll. (the kawaii guy)
ahh crap this always happens when I join a forum. I get acused of being someone who was banned already. @suttles, this post may seem trollish as I don't have any rep yet (only 4 posts) and its somewhat of a generic question. Sooo... to disprove this I'll go a little more into detail. When I'm given an assignment from one of these classes I have trouble coming up with something. I know the tools in these programs and what they are capable of but I usually have a problem that I either come up with something more complicated than I can accomplish or something just plain retarded. The kind of answers I'm looking for are the things that get you guys just plain INSPIRED! Such as music. This is helpful. Or for some people it might be going for a walk in the park. The reason for the poll? I'm curious how common this is as I'm considering a career change if this isn't a common problem.
watch more anime and be spontaneous
Look up stuff on deviantart. It usually shocks me into a jealous rage and I'm am pushed to make something good.

I agree with this; however, I would recommend http://www.conceptart.org
instead or http://forums.cgsociety.org/ since the quality is always astounding.
When I'm in a slump I do the usual:watch movies; listen to music; read manga. Although another thing I find really useful is- finding a competition.
competitions always motivate me and they often have very good themes. Also, making a thread on FP or another forum is also a pretty good motivator, I always feel obligated to make something new. You could also join a daily sketch group with challenges (I think they have that on Conceptart.org) or get some comissions. I also make tutorials: I have a habit of not finishing anything; however, if I promised to make a tutorial, I have to and will see it through.
I have the same thing with watching something and then feeling like it might be "stealing"- I never do it. I would stay away from copying anything straight out of a film or a comic without stating so: avoiding lawsuits :downs:
Don't leave yourself the option not to create.
... Man, I should follow my own advice.
As soon as you are out of inspiration, restrict yourself to make it more difficult.
Well I never have any myself, but checking out stuff on DA and Conceptart is some very good advices. And to pick up a more serious note on The weeaboo troll certain anime companies can actually be inspiring for new pieces of art. SHAFT and Studio C4 makes a lot of experimental stuff and plays around with colours and composition a lot.
Movies are definitely a good place for inspiration too and most artists tends to listen to music when they are making something. Listening to music can easily set a mood and influence your drawings, or sometimes spark an idea based on the lyrics or sound (or both of course). Classical music is well worth a listen to if you try to pay attention to the composition as they pretty much always tell a story. If you can grasp that story (the way you interpret it) you can probably come up with something to make too.

Running out of creativity is a common problem for most. You'll also find that many great artists often end up repeating the same style and themes in their art too. Creativity isn't easy, that's why it's so satisfying when you do manage to be creative. We easily end up finding set rules for how things should be and if we accept it too much we can easily forget there are different ways to do things and it becomes hard to break the rules and think differently. Which is very much the reason we easily think "But everything has been done. All we do is recycle and slightly modify things. It's not possible to create new stuff nowadays, everything is already made".

And then dgg was creativity.
And then dgg was creativity.
Ahaha, oh man. The thought was correct, but the choice of word, not.
Would be nice if it was true. But I'm too much of a strict technical arsehole.
And then dgg was creativity.
and then dan and dgg teamed up and formed the most creative set of tits known to man
Some of these are GREAT ideas! Thanks for not succumbing to calling me a troll and actually giving me some pretty damn good advice! I'm not sure why, but after a good night of sleep I remembered another site that helps me... newgrounds ftw. Deviant art is also another really good idea! I also will try to find some contest somewhere when I'm not quite as busy with school and work... restricting myself is also another fun idea! Such as in photoshop telling myself I can't use a certain tool to get a task done! I think I have some inspiration now guys! THANKS! But feel free to keep posting what helps you guys... I may check back here next time I'm stuck.
I'm lucky, considering I do creative writing. If I run out of juices, I tend to be able to get more just from watching a film or reading a book, or just sticking the right music on. Trouble is, I am usually in the cinema / on the train in those situations and can't write anything.
Take a break for a few days if you've got a block, it helps.

Buy a notepad or something and always have it with you, and a pen.
I should take my own advice...
i just watch some shit off SA's dailiy drawing thread, wank and get to work.
Getting inspired is not a problem, getting into a mood to start doing anything is.
Music always works.
If that doesn't help just use drugs :3:

Same here dude! Ever since my MP3 broke I've been drawing like shit...
Oh man, just thought of making a thread about this, thanks for the tips guys.
Watch a movie. That usually gives me good ideas.
