"Hard mode?" Jesus, I can barely survive on normal mode. Def. looking forward to this update.
I adore FTL right up until the final sector where it turns from "keep moving, keep upgrading and clinging on to make it to the next sector" to "OH BY THE WAY GIANT BORING BOSS FIGHT HOPE YOU WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET ALL OF THE WEAPONS YOU WANTED".

The change in gameplay is just the worst part for me, although the way the game is structured it can't just keep going and it's the boss fight or "you got to the other end yay".

The swarm of missiles and a breaching drone was what got me when they struck my shield generator, landed the breach drone in my generator and also causing four fires which took out the rest of my shields in a second.
I thought it was always on hard mode.
I've been hoping for a hard mode for a while now and I'm excited for a new level of challenge/masochism. I'm also sort of interested as to whether or not the end boss will be tweaked in any way in order to either use some of the new systems or to compensate for possible power creep.

Granted getting rid of the fleet removes the "keep moving" part of the game, but it gets rid of the final boss and lets you play until you die.
I never got past the third sector IIRC
