I don't know if anyone on Facepunch likes Neil Young or cares who he is, but I decided to write this thread since I respect him a great deal, and he has released a huge amount of material. Anyway, if you know who he is, I hope you enjoy this thread, and if you're not familiar with his music I hope you learn something!

Neil Percival Young is a Canadian songwriter born November 12, 1945 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, who now lives on his ranch in northern California. Sometimes referred to as the Godfather of Grunge, Neil has had a long and (mostly) successful career, and has over 40 studio albums and numerous live compilations, and a 4 or 5 part Archive series, which contains many unreleased songs and alternate and live recordings that span his 45-career. Cited by many to be the second most influential living songwriter (only behind Bob Dylan), his influence reaches across a wide variety of genres including rock, punk, country, folk, grunge, psychedelic, folk, bluegrass, americana, noise and so much more.
After touring Canada as a solo artist, and a after having a brief stink with R&B legend Rick James, Neil Young decided he'd have more success in the States, and drove to LA with friend and bassist Bruce Palmer. While stuck on the LA freeway, he met up with Stepehn Stills, whom he had met previously in Canada, and Stills had recognized Neil's black hearse with the Ontario license plants. It was in LA where he would start his first successful band, the Buffalo Springfield.
His first hit with Buffalo Springfield (written by Stephen Stills). You may recognize it. Neil Young's the guitar player all the way on the left that's not sitting:

After reuniting with former Buffalo Springfield bandmate Stephen Stills for a very succesful album as a member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Neil made an album that did extremely well and is considered an all-time classic. Here's just a few of the songs, but every song on that album could be given 5/5 stars:

Rust Never Sleeps has to be one of my favorite albums. The first and last tracks are fucking powerful and Pocahontas is hilarious.

Rust Never Sleeps isn't my favorite album of his but I think it may be his best. Also the version of Pocahontas on Year Of The Horse is pretty cool too.
I have After the Gold Rush, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and Tonight's the Night. All superb albums.

Yeah, he's about as real as it gets.
I hear if you cut him he bleeds Maple Syrup.
Here's some information about his new album, simply called Le Noise that's coming out on Sept. 28:
Le Noise:
1. Walk With Me
2. Sign of Love
3. Rescue Me
4. Love and War
5. Angry World
6. Hitchhiker
7. Peaceful Valley Blvd.
8. Rumblin'
Most of the album is solo electric using all sorts of effects and synthesizers. A couple of the songs are acoustic. And most of the reviews so far say this album is going to kick ass.

Those are two of his best, for sure. Although pretty much album he did during the 70's is among his best really.
My father and I absolutely love Neil Young
Young Neil Megathread.
What's really exciting though, is his best album is finally going to be released within a year, after sitting in his vault for nearly 40 years because it was so personal and real that it scared him. That should be a good one for sure.
But so far Le Noise looks like it's going to be awesome.
this guy is a massive faggot

His new album, Le Noise, is awesome, 10/10 stars. It's possibly his best album since Rust Never Sleeps. I highly recommend it.
