A PASSENGER plane carrying more than 100 people has crashed into the ocean off the coast of Bali.
It is believed the plane slid off the runway at Ngurah Rai Airport, near Denpasar, where it was scheduled to land late this afternoon before landing in water.
So it ran off the runway by the looks of it
All the passengers might have survived, but they haven't found enough of anybody to ask him yet.
everyone survived. the plane descent too early, said by the locals.
That's just a carp swimming around your ankles...
Well, I'm in an airport departure lounge right now. This has filled me with confidence :v:
Landing at Bali airport is fucking scary as the only thing you can see when you are coming in to land is water, you continue to get closer and closer to it until suddenly airstrip and you touch down. Then you realize, if the plane doesn't stop in time, it goes in to the water anyway.

When I was on holiday I made the big mistake of watching Air Crash Investigations before two 8 hour flights :v:
saved by those wee whistles on their life jackets no doubt
Wow, do these people know just how lucky they are? There are only so many water landings that have been successful without casualties. Hell people used to think that all the videos about water landings they force you to watch were entirely useless since you were going to die anyway until that one water landing in the Hudson river in 2009.

both the Hudson and this one were very lucky...
(refering to bali- not the one in the vid)

How the hell are they 'lucky'? They were hijacked by terrorists, then forced to ditch in the ocean.
Sure, it was near an island, but it doesn't change the fact that the plane was torn into pieces from the force of the water hitting the right engine, killing over a hundred people.
They didn't ditch in the ocean though. They ran off the runway into the sea. Big difference

Looks as if it broke between rows. Since everyone would be shitting themselves already, I dont see how this would make it workse.
The plane is very lucky that its shallow water and didnt sink. In addition, its luck the nose of the airplane didnt break off either.

They are lucky they were landing and they were already slowing down on a runway before they ran out of runway. If they just up and landed there at landing speed, it would have been much worse.
The pilot is going to be fired though for not hitting the throttle to full to take off again when they noticed they were not going to make it back when they were still in the sky.
All 101 passengers and seven crew on the Lion Air flight survived, although dozens were said to be injured and at least seven were taken to hospital with head wounds and broken bones.
108 survivors? Plane split in half over the ocean? Sounds familiar.

The one time I was flying, discovery decided to have a Mayday marathon

I don't get the reference.
I'm glad planes can float on water nowadays instead of sinking. They we close to shore too
Isn't Lion Air banned from flying to Europe due to its appalling safety record?
