Or maybe most women are just insecure about their body image.
why is this rated dumb we're living in an age of constant advertising and shameless profiting off of peoples' guilt it's not exactly a generalization when it's common for men as well, it doesn't become sexist the moment you say "most women"
because it trivialises the issue discussed in the article, which is that this is a thing that is potentially contributing to womens' insecurities
Because taking selfies has so much more impact on their self-esteem than the constant barrage of "LOOK BETTER" "HOW TO NOT BE UGLY" that has been in magazines for years, right? Correlation =/= causation.
This is just some dumb study; correlation is not causation. This is some Daily Mail tier reporting right here.
You can't deny that "Selfie culture" is obviously related to self-worth though. It's something lots and lots of people are doing and if you're already insecure enough to think that every picture of you looks bad it'll do nothing to help your self-esteem. Not being able to think you can take a good picture of yourself is probably not the only issue at hand but the stigma that comes with not being able to be part of the thing that's currently "in" can definitely be a contributing factor.
do you not know what the word "potentially" means
I do, and this does nothing that other factors aren't already doing.
I do, and this does nothing that other factors aren't already doing.
"other things are doing the same thing so this can't make it worse"
The concept of positive self-image is something that really became corrupt over time. Once it used to be "You need to be confortable with how you look". Now it became something like "No one should look better than you and no one should reject you because they don't find you attractive".
Apparently the researchers think men don't give a shit how they look then
