In a 7-2 opinion the Supreme Court found the placement of the monument on the grounds of the state Capitol violate Article 2, Section 5, of the Oklahoma Constitution which prohibits the use of public money or property to directly or indirectly benefit a “church denomination or system of religion.” The ruling overturned a decision by Oklahoma County District Judge Thomas Prince. In its ruling the Supreme Court cited a clause in the Oklahoma Constitution that states: "No public money or property shall ever be appropriated, applied, donated, or used, directly or indirectly, for the use, benefit, or support of any sect, church, denomination, or system of religion, or for the use, benefit, or support of any priest, preacher, minister, or other religious teacher or dignitary, or sectarian institution as such."
And yes, this IS the one that the Satanic Temple was protesting by preparing a statue of Baphomet to install next to it. I guess we won't be seeing it go up after all...
That is a bitching fucking statue and I want a little replica on my desk. e: Maybe without the kids though, they're creepy.

first my flags, then my marriage and now my statues surely these are the end days
As long as they are consistent about this ruling for everyone, this sounds good to me.
As long as they are consistent about this ruling for everyone, this sounds good to me.
Opposed to what? Letting Sharia Law go unchecked? Christianity is not the one being "singled" in USA in anything other than implicit governmental endorsement.
You're in luck, though he does look a little lean-y
and has tits
It's supposed to. I dunno Templars were weird dudes I guess.
Learn something new every day. Guess I should brush up on my satanic deities.
It's supposed to. I dunno Templars were weird dudes I guess.
Wasn't it that Baphomet was mainly a figment and the actual thing was that they were accused of worshipping Mahomet (Mohammad)? I could just be going crazy or it could've been something I came across randomly and that actually was complete BS. I don't recall right.
As long as they are consistent about this ruling for everyone, this sounds good to me.
It's automatically a consistent decision. No religion is going to be allowed to put a monument up there, which is why the Satanic Temple isn't going to.

Christianity is not the one being "singled" in USA in anything other than implicit governmental endorsement.
As opposed to not being consistent? We shouldn't see a nativity scene there either, or a star of David, or a satanic statue.

Yet another casualty in the war on religion #ThanksObama #GodlessPresident #MuslumAgenda
This is fucking stupid, why do people focus on removing religious articles if they have no purpose or effect, other then reminding the old people in that town about their all American God fearing childhood. Now they get to die thinking about how everything has to be "acceptable in society" even if that includes removing a statue which holds a lot of nostalgic value in their hearts. Good job you miserable bastards, making old people feel all regulated.

It's right there.
Thanks Obama
I found the actual replica they are selling on their website for funding: http://shopsatan.com/collections/frontpage/products/bust-of-baphomet-miniature-replica

The 10 commandments statue is a reminder of the historical significance of religion in the founding of the country and the call of our founding documents for equal rights as given by the divine. That simple fact doesn't mean that the government is supporting Christianity as the truth. To deny the historical significance of the Judeo-Christian heritage in the western legal system would just be ignorant.

A courthouse is not the place for a list of rules that are 80% irrelevant.

Jefferson, a diest on his death bed and before, wrote that word to signify that the rights are innate. He did not use that word so that some few hundred years later people like you could say it was religious. There's few people more versed in Jefferson and constitutional thought that Christopher Hitchens and he would vehemently disagree with the assertion divine has anything to do with the Christian God.
It's supposed to. I dunno Templars were weird dudes I guess.
Brother... that metal armor must be sooooo hot...
Also, the Ten Commandments are not the basis for western morality. 2, maybe 3 of them at most, are important. And those 3? Those came from Babylon, not Moses.

Also note that Jefferson cared so deeply about the Christian ethics that he went to the trouble of making his own Bible titled "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth." You don't put that much work into something if you don't highly respect it. If we're going to say that any depiction of religion is illegal, then we should start tearing down essentially every single national monument in the country. They, almost without exception, have some image of Christianity or some Bible verse inscribed into them.

It's sad, to me, that the core tenants of humanity have been long claimed by christianity and catholocism and religion in general, even though it's not at all required for those things to come to fruition. The code of hammurabi predates all biblical rules, and is believed by more learned men than either of us, to be the foundation of modern morality, having been adopted by the christians in the form of the ten commandments and used elsewhere in the biblical world. His book, his bible, also strips Jesus of any god hood he may have had, and leaves Jesus as but a man, purely a man, not even the son of god. His bible, turns Jesus into a man, and wipes away his miracles. His bible, that you're using to define him as a christian(Even against his own words) was clearly a criticism OF the bible from his position.
