• What is revealed through media

Something that has annoyed me for a long time is the amount of stuff people pack into trailers for movies now. I'll start with terminator salvation, i was pretty excited to see this movie knowing it wouldn't be as good as 2 but nonetheless, terminators... It was revealed in trailer(s) that one of the main characters was a terminator, yet we had to endure half of the film with nobody knowing until this big "shock" scene in which it was revealed. It would have been fun to watch it without knowing... I can only assume that they made the film with the intention of it being kept secret yet when advertising came around people yelled "i know, lets have the twist half-way through the storyline revealed in a trailer!". Think back to Terminator 2, nobody knew if it was Arnold or Robert Patrick that was the good guy. Cameron and the team kept it quiet and advertised things in a way that didn't reveal anything, it made for a tensing moment in that hallway with them both walking towards Connor, now wasn't that just awesome? Now imagine that it had been revealed who was the hero... Spark lost. on to the recent Iron man 2. All over the trailers was Whiplash in this "race" scene. Now i don't know about anyone else, but wouldn't it have been more fun if you didn't know he was going to enter the scene and [sp]Whip stark's car[/sp]. When i saw it in the cinemas i just sat there and waited for him to come on the screen. How boring is that. I completely anticipated it. I could go on to name more films and how they pack their CGI into trailers, but i've learnt to avoid them at all costs now. they used to be very good sneak peaks into what the movie would offer, but now they pretty much find the most appealing scene and throw it in there. I find it much more enjoyable if i didn't know i was going to see a [sp]Volcano exploding in 2012[/sp] or hundreds of smiths in reloaded... Have that enjoyment and excitement in the cinema rather then a week before release. Feel free to disagree with me, but this has irritated me for a long time

Oh wow, that sort of gives it all away.
I agree. Trailers spoil way too much, like horror flick trailers shows all the scares and monster closets. I see this in games too, the launch trailer of MW2 basically spoiled every single level. And they even showed footage of a guy with a boonie hat, and we all know that the only person in CoD that uses such a hat is Price.
The Hitcher remake. I first watched the trailer, then the movie. Me and my friends just sat there and guessed, based on the trailer, what was going to happen. None of us were wrong.
The Hitcher remake. I first watched the trailer, then the movie. Me and my friends just sat there and guessed, based on the trailer, what was going to happen. Every time i see a movie after seeing the trailer i think "wow, the next scene will be that cool looking car chase" "that explosion is going to happen behind him any second now" I mean, i wan't it to be a surprise dammit.
Some trailers absolutely suck and make the movie better. Like Lakeview Terrace.
Hollywood doesn't care that much, it's a money making machine most of the time. So it doesn't really put heart in the stuff it spews. time to start checking out older movies, foreign films, independent & short films.
I prefer the idea of having short 30 second Teasers instead of Trailers. There is less chance for the film makers to spoil the film for us.
The trailer for Shutter Island had me guessing the ending. It's a shame because I probably would have seen the film if it weren't for such a giveaway.
Why the hell are the plots on the internet anyways.
Because they know the film sucks. They reveal the best parts, so they can get viewers. Terminator Salvation was a piece of shit.
I agree.
This has become a massive annoyance the past years. thank good they don't do this with game trailers/cinematics. yet. Think of BioWares ways of teasing the public, they are epic but don't spoil things you don't already know.
The one that always makes me think of this is the newer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when they take such good care to hide Johnny Depp's face until his unveiling in front of the factory, but the trailers ruined that. Also It can really ruin the plot when someone is on the brink of death, but you know they'll be alright because there's a scene in a trailer with him in it that hasn't happened yet so you know he survives.
Iron Sky doesn't reveal damn near anything in it's trailer. And it's also currently my most anticipated movie, I wonder why. Book of Eli kept it's twists pretty moot as well.
what about how they always post a one second shot of the end scene in every trailer about 20 seconds in?
I like trailers like the Watchmen movie trailer because it entices fans of the comic series by showing them parts they'd only really understand story wise and it intrigued others into seeing what it was about.
Law Abiding Citizen's trailer only showed stuff from the first 5 minutes and the last 15 minutes.
I never watch trailers for this very reason, I'm sick of people spoiling their own films before it's even released, it's dumb as fuck. I'm all for viral ads though.
The hangover would have been funnier if I hadnt heard all the jokes already.
Paranormal Activity, much?
The trailer for the original Friday the 13th did this as well, it showed every death in the trailer. Which is why people went to see it, and now they have, all in under a couple of minutes.
The final destination.
The final destination.
[sp]Everyone dies, the end.[/sp]
Not all of the movie has been spoiled, what about The Hurt Locker?
Fuck, I think that commercial included every scene of Get Him to the Greek. :downs:
