A teenager who microwaved his brother's hamster has been sent to a young offenders' institution for four months, the RSPCA said.
The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also banned at Kettering Youth Court from keeping animals for four years, the animal welfare charity added.
It said the one-year-old female golden hamster had to be put down after suffering severe burns. One of its feet was burnt through to the bone.
The boy, from the Corby area of Northamptonshire, threatened to microwave his brother's hamster before he placed it in the cooker in March last year.
The boy pleaded guilty to one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal at a court hearing in January.
RSPCA inspector Clint Davies said afterwards: "This is an extremely shocking case. I don't think we can have any idea how much pain an animal goes through when it's put in a microwave and cooked alive.
"This hamster's leg was burned to a crisp and as microwaves cook from the inside, the organ damage to this tiny animal must have been horrific.
"It would take more than a few seconds to burn the leg right down to the bone."
Put him in a microwave, see how it feels.
That's so fucked up.
Global Headline material right here, folks.

I remember something similar happened a few months ago.
This makes me want to explode with rage! :argh:
How the hell did this make it to the news???
I swear the world is fucked.

Oh yeah, because a hamsters life is equal to a human's life right?

Tragic? Yes.
News worthy? Not really.
I think you'd die of shock pretty fast.

I remember reading up before that it takes about 30 minutes for a human being to actually start cooking within a microwave.
I was shocked and appalled.
Microwaves don't cook from the inside-out.

Which is why your eyes and balls would be the first to go.
What a dumb inspector if he thinks that the hamster cooked inside-out. The organs would've turned into a blackened cracker before any external damage was shown.
This makes me want to explode with rage! :argh:
i see what you did there
It's not that bad, get over it really..
Oh yeah, because a hamsters life is equal to a human's life right?
If you think it's okay to put another living being in a microwave and burn it alive, you are less than human.
Hang on, he's 16 so why hasn't has name been revealed?
I could've swore it was 16 and not 18.

18 Makes you an adult?
If you think it's okay to put another living being in a microwave and burn it alive, you are less than human.
what does it make you then?
Put him in a microwave, see how it feels.
That would be a mess. I'd feel bad for the janitor.
I think microwaves do heat from the inside out, they cook by making water particles vibrate to cause heat as far as I remember.
