[release]Gloucester is bracing for the spotlight once again and some locals are fuming over the new Lifetime Television movie, “The Pregnancy Pact,” a flick inspired by the city’s teen baby mama drama. The shocking account of a pregnancy pact in Time magazine in June 2008 ignited a firestorm and thrust Gloucester into the international glare. So far, none of the 17 teens in the alleged pact have come forward to confirm it actually happened. That didn’t prevent neighboring Beverly Farms youths from mocking Gloucester in a tasteless “horribles” parade, while red-faced city officials scrambled to get to the bottom of the matter. They have since disputed it. Lifetime has begun airing commercials for the movie’s Jan. 23 premiere, which stars Camryn Manheim of “The Practice” fame as the school nurse. In real life, Dr. Brian Orr and Kim Daly - the former medical director and nurse practitioner of Gloucester High School’s health center - both resigned in the spring of 2008 because they didn’t get the support needed to provide contraception to students. Yesterday, they protested the film as another case of media exploitation. “We took care of these kids and we know for a fact that there was no pact,” the pair said in a statement yesterday. “The pact was totally a product of the media, and for the media in any way, movies or otherwise, to continue to take advantage of this idea of the pact is truly disgusting.” Daly said Lifetime never contacted her and said “it’s a little strange” to be portrayed in a movie. “I hope that they don’t make it seem like I was doing things that maybe I wasn’t doing that could potentially upset the community,” said Daly, who plans to watch the movie. “I anticipate it’s going to cause me, probably, a tremendous amount of anxiety.” Gloucester Schools Superintendent Christopher Farmer said Lifetime never contacted him and his investigation “found absolutely no evidence” of a pregnancy pact. City councilor and former school committeeman Greg Verga added: “How can you base a true story on something that is alleged?” Lifetime claimed in November the film was “inspired by a true story” and “explores the costs of teen pregnancy set against the backdrop of the infamous alleged 2008 ‘pregnancy pact’ in Gloucester.” Yesterday, Lifetime backtracked, saying, “This film is the story of a fictional ‘pregnancy pact’ set against the backdrop of actual news reports about teen pregnancy from June 2008.”[/release] Soruce: The Boston Herald If your not aware of the story, what started as a minor controversy over contraceptive distribution in a Gloucester, Massachusetts high school turned into an international shitstorm when TIME Magazine reported that a group of teenage girls had made a "pact" to get pregnant before turning 18. Whether or not that pact ever existed will never be known.
it's lifetime who gives a fuck
Let them do as they please.
I thought Lifetime's movies were about men either abusing/cheating on their wives.
I thought Lifetime's movies were about men either abusing/cheating on their wives.
Look to your left. Now look to your right. Both of those men will rape you.
Lifetime is almost is just as bad as those religious shows, they teach women they have rights. Ha! Really though, it's a stupid channel, with stupid shows.
The only person in that entire town that should even care is the nurse.
Lifetime is essentially the Man-Hater Channel. Who cares what they're airing.
Hahahaha, those little sluts are never going to live this down.
If some people want to ruin their life, let them.
