• New GPU and CPU ( maybe a new PSU?)
    23 replies, posted
At the moment, I have a 250 dollar budget. I may be able to budge up to 300. I would like it to be able to run a lot of games - like bf3, just cause 2, gta v, etc. Heres my setup currently: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8600 @ 3.33GHz RAM: 4.1 GB OS: Windows 7 GPU: Radeon X1900 CrossFire Edition PSU: Not completely sure yet - more than enough to run the x1900 though - might be around 400 watts. I'm looking at the GTX 560, and I have no idea what CPU to get. Also, i'm not completely sure what type of GTX 560 to get on newegg- are they all the same? I also noticed that there's pins, and I was wondering if anyone can figure out how many I have on the x1900. Thanks!
Open up the case and give us the exact model and wattage of the PSU. Also the 560 is 2 generations old why are you getting that?

Give me some reccomendations? I'm kinda new to buying hardware for my computer. I will give you the PSU in about an hour. I'm unable to do so at this moment. I realise that you can't really give a good reccomendation. Let's just say its 500 watts right now.
Get a GTX 760.
Get a GTX 760.
I agree. Preferably EVGA with non-reference cooling. This is a good choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130933 It has a TDP of 170W.

Should I be good then - no new CPU? Also, on the link you posted it said : 30 amps on the +12 volt rail is required. Should I worry about this, or will I be good?
You should probably upgrade your CPU, motherboard, and RAM.
You should probably upgrade your CPU, motherboard, and RAM.
Reccomendations?
If you get a new GPU (like the GTX760), it will be bottlenecked to hell by your current CPU. If you get a new CPU, motherboard and RAM, they will be crippled by the X1900. Both situations suck, but it would be slightly better to have a better GPU with a worse CPU than the other way around. I would go for something like an HD7850 (or 7950) that would be a good upgrade, instead of going overkill with a GTX700 series that you won't be able to fully utilize.

You won't get a decent processor for $100 and you would have to get a new motherboard. I would at the minimum recommend the i5-4430 ($189), and again that requires you get a new motherboard.

Basically. I'd stick with a 7850/70 or 7950.
Basically. I'd stick with a 7850/70 or 7950.
Coolio. Can you possibly name a few games I can play?
Coolio. Can you possibly name a few games I can play?
All. It takes very little to play any game. You will have to lower settings on some games to get a good framerate. That's all. The only possible exceptions are games which have problems with AMD cards, of which I can think of a grand total of 2 (rage and brink). The only foreseeable problem with your overall system is the low amount of RAM, but if you don't have a lot of background programs running you should be fine.
Thanks! so, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125419 will be fine?
That card has bad reviews. For the same price you can get a Powercolor HD7870 GHZ Edition: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131492

So, I'll still be bottlenecked but once I get a new CPU i'll be fine. Thanks for everything, guys.
Let's say that I have 400~ now. ( probably will, i'm going to save up) any reccomendations on a new motherboard, cpu if i'm sticking with the hd7870? videos too?? seems pretty hard to install a new motherboard. cpu and gpu seem simple ( pretty much just taking one out, then putting another back in) my mother worked for hp and microsoft for over 10 years combined, but that was over 10 years ago. so, any videos to go along with installing it in, too?

No. The minimum I would recommend you upgrade to is the i5-4430 and the G41 h87. That's 189.99 + 79.99 = 269.98. $200 might get you an i3 and a cheap motherboard which wouldn't be worth the money in my opinion.
And we still need your PSU specs. For al you know that psu cant evven support a 7870.
And we still need your PSU specs. For al you know that psu cant evven support a 7870.
It's 500 watts.
It's 500 watts.
We need a bit more information than that. PSUs divide their power into seperate rails, and if there is not enough going into the 12V rail, you can't support the GPU. Most good power supplies won't have this problem, but who knows, you may have an IED.
