To start this off I live in a household with 7 heavy internet users, with 2/3 of them using Iplayer/ITVPlayer/internet killing services at any one time, and it is making it super difficult to get anything done as our connection is being destroyed by my housemates constantly running torrents/Iplayer etc.
I need some software that will allow me to remotely limit their connection speeds.
By the way, I am basically the IT guy around here, and everyone comes to me with their IT woes, I am not trying to be some nazi by taking control of their connections :)
Thanks in advance!
I had to go into my brother's torrent app and set global download limits because things were so bad, i couldn't even game without 500+ ping of lag. If there was some sort of throttling app, i would have used it long ago. :/
Torrents are quite an issue, I told them why having an unlimited upload speed actually makes the connection slower, but they keep uncapping under the impression the more they give the more they get. Annoying aswell because we are constantly hitting our ISP bandwidth cap, meaning our connection gets throttled back to 200kbps and then nothing works.
Got a router you can access the configuration panel/menu of??
If yes, learn to embrace QoS.
forgot link to basic explanation of QoS
Check to see if your router is supported by DD-WRT. If it is it should be simple to set up QoS.
Even Linksys own firmware to some of their old home routers supports QoS
Not as advanced as DD-WRT but more than enough for OP
Check to see if your router is supported by DD-WRT. If it is it should be simple to set up QoS.
Do you pay your internet bill? If not then thats a really dick thing to do.
Net limiter might work but I think it's just for the computer it's installed on.

Just set up Qos even my old linksys router has it built-in.
Fairly sure NetLimiter can do remote control if you're prepared to install it on all the PCs

Its a really dick thing to hog the connection and cause everyone else to lose out.
Just trying to give everyone a fair share, and my dad pays for it and gets fairly pissed off when it doesnt work so if anything this will make things better for him too, would hopefully stop the layabouts at my home from watching jeremy kyle online all day :/.
