We have a modem/router combo: SBG6900-AC
16X Faster than DOCSIS 2.0 Download speeds up to 686 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem 16 download and 4 upload channels Supports IPv4 and IPv6 – the latest Internet standard Compatible with major U.S. Cable Providers 3X Faster than Wireless N+ Wi-Fi speeds up to 1900 Mbps 802.11 AC Gigabit Wi-Fi Wi-Fi beamforming – max coverage and performance 2.4/5.0 GHz Dual-band Concurrent 4 – Gigabit Ethernet Ports
We were running 1Gbps internet for 3 months. The first month was fine, then for two months it kept going out throughout the day. The cable guy said the modem needed 32 internal channels to handle the 1Gbps speeds, and was thus resetting itself from bandwidth overload. So we downgraded to 600Mbps, worked fine for a day, now it happens again. Also when it goes out, the lights on the modem are normal, yet when I troubleshoot from computer it says limited connection and the DNS server could not be reached. Could the modem have been damaged from resetting itself so many times? That's the only clue I have. So confused, please help. I have tried the "ipconfig /flushdns" stuff and other things from google, nothing helps.
what are the error logs for the SBG6900-AC saying? you should be able to log into it with 192.168.0.1 username: admin password: password
Didn't know I had those! Still not sure how to read them... Any ideas? [thumb]http://nodakconstruction.com/gallery/logs.png[/thumb] [editline]22nd May 2017[/editline] Read somewhere that the db shouldn't spike so much, this is what (-8.7 dBmV) means right? A 8.7db spike in the line? I read possibly damage in the line somewhere, is any of this correct? Here is another graph: [thumb]http://nodakconstruction.com/gallery/logs2.png[/thumb]

This was my logs prior to modem going down after a game and a half of dota. My corrected values were 67k+ before reset. Any significance? [thumb]http://nodakconstruction.com/gallery/logs5.png[/thumb] This would be right after I reset it and finished the second game. [thumb]http://nodakconstruction.com/gallery/logs6.png[/thumb] Anddddd the logs of that specific 2+ hour period. [thumb]http://nodakconstruction.com/gallery/logs7.png[/thumb] I'm just saving the logs and trying to get any info I can. Will probably try to talk to some head isp guy and email the logs to him. So far from what I read I'm assuming something to do with a previously installed line tap/upstream issue. idk but I feel like I'm learning something
your downstream and upstream channels look nominal beside that "corrected" category, i'm not sure what that means. What is interesting here is the errors you've been having, the same I'm having which I've recently learned about thanks to the thread I made. They mean that something somewhere is wrong with your cable, and that you will have to call your isp. You can inspect your cable going to your modem, then to your splitter outside if you like (and even replace it) but legally you are not allowed to replace any cable on the isp's side of the splitter.(the cable that is probably going to a telephone pole.) https://volpefirm.com/docsis_timout_descriptions/ take a look at this too. I'm pretty sure its impossible to have this many t1-6 errors without the cable being fucked up somewhere. especially if your modem does what it says performance wise.
AHA!! Found a 4 way splitter coming off our pole in the back yard. Two of the out lines were just cut, the third went nowhere, and the fourth is the only one we use. I took out the splitter and connected straight to the poll. Look how nice these stats leveled out after that!! [thumb]http://nodakconstruction.com/gallery/logsfix.png[/thumb] I will update if anything goes out in the next couple days. But I think I have found the source of our problem!!
If you find terminator end caps for F connectors, that may further improve your signal if you put them on the empty spots on the splitter. Any thing to reduce interference and signal loss.
