Well, I got $1200 for Christmas + my birthday combined, and I want to build a computer.
I don't need a monitor, keyboard, and speakers.
Edit:
[img_thumb]http://www.filemaw.com/file/5d-Computer%20Parts.jpg[/img_thumb]
It's about $1067 including shipping. I'd like some recommendations on things I could improve, as I have a large amount of extra money.
Edit:
Change the motherboard and processor to the ones in
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.576624 to lazy to change the pic right now.
And add in a power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.584777
Wait a month, get a sandy bridge processor.
Planning to, I just want to have most of the parts ready so I don't have to spend more time looking for them.
Get an I5. I've found they're pretty much the same as an I7 performance-wise.

Would that come with the cables? I'm not completely sure it does...

SATA cables usually come with the motherboard. Retail HDD come with them too, but I don't think that one will.
it doesn't say whether it's OEM or not, so I'm not sure
but motherboards usually come with at least 1 SATA cable anyway

Get a better drive, anyways. There's a nice caviar black on sale right now.

It actually says it's Retail on it.

Thanks
Which brand of video card should I get? Nvidia or ATI?
And which brand of processor? Intel or AMD?
Whether it's nVidia or ATi, intel or AMD doesn't matter. Just look for whatever offers the best performance for the price, and go for it.
Edit: This is old, and not a representation of my current system. The current one is in OP.
I made a quick selection of computer parts.

It costs $1,187.34
(I luckily found a way to gather more money.)
Is this good?
No reason to go i7, unless you're doing something that needs those extra 4 threads.
Go i5, or wait for sandy bridge.
Yeah, I was planning to change it a bit when Sandy Bridge comes out.
Go i5, cut down the motherboard a little bit, and get a 6950.
And isn't that RAM a little bit too overkill?
The case is pretty bad too, I suggest you cut down on the RAM, and get a coolermaster HAF 922.
And get the Samsung F3 Spinpoint 1TB instead.

What Motherboard would you recommend?
Dude thats a horrible build.
Give up for now, bump this thread once Sandy bridge is out. Prices are gonna change once they release it.

I've changed the build quite a bit since posting the pic, I'm going to post a new one when I find a good motherboard.
Although, with my total inexperience with Computer Hardware, that may take until Sandy Bridge comes out.
What Motherboard would you recommend?
GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 for $140
or for a little more
ASUS P7P55D-E Pro
For the i5 processor. Seriously though, wait for sandy bridge and don't get i7.
Bumping because Sandy Bridge is out and to finalize my computer.
That's an 1156 socket motherboard, you need 1155
Is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131682&cm_re=LGA_1155-_-13-131-682-_-Product good?
Combo that with the
i7-2600k
or
i5-2500k
Unless he needs 3 PCI-E slots and SATA 6.0 I would say this for 2500K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.576624
and this combo for 2600K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.576622
It's like you're getting the motherboard for $115

I've already decided that the GD55 is my favourite P67 mobo, and now holy shit that combo
I went with the 2500K combo with the MSI motherboard, unless if SATA 6.0 is much better than 3.0, and if I need 3 PCI-E slots. (I don't know anything about computer hardware so... yeah.)
so as of right now, what are you planning on getting?
Everything in the OP, but replacing the Motherboard and Processor with your first combo deal.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.576624
You don't have a PSU in there, take out the case and get this combo
