Released yesterday for iOS Deus Ex: The Fallis all about giving the player options, unless that player is attempting to run the game on a jailbroken iPhone or iPad, in which case it removes one of the most important abilities in the game — pulling the trigger. Encountered by Redditor KipEnyan and verified by several user reviews in the app store, jailbroken players starting up the first mobile installment of the Deus Ex series are treated to a few cutscenes and a movement tutorial before running into the message above. It comes up during the game's shooting tutorial, and while one would assume players could still stealth through the game, I'm not sure they can progress beyond that point without tranquilizing those guards. Mind you, this isn't pirates running into this issue. While I am sure there are some shady players attempting to get The Fall to run on their jailbroken iPads and iPhones, there are plenty of honest folks who dropped $6.99 on the game, only to have it treat them like pirates. "$7 for a game that doesn't work on jail broken devices. No warning in App Store description," reads on user review for the app. Another says "I understand protecting the app against cracking/pirating, but preventing paying customers from playing on a device they own and legally modified is ridiculous." apparently to eidos, jailbreakers=pirates. fuck them.
I don't get the point when someone will find a way around it.
well isn't that a dick move to the max?
Ironic considering Deus Ex: HR is a game that revolves around making modifications and hacking. [editline]stuff[/editline] If you bought this game from the App store (i.e. legally), you can use a tweak called xCon (avaliable in Cydia) which makes Apps not realize the device is jailbroken.
all this means is that rather than buying the game on a jailbroken device, people will pirate cracked versions to get around this gg eidos gg
Come on Eidos, there has to be some confusion here.
I hope they don't pull that shit with rooted Android. Seriously how hard is it to check and see if the app was legally bought? A lot of Android apps and games do that.

They should just have done something like Serious Sam 3. If they haven't bought the game, poof, suddenly an overpowered enemy.
Crack coming in 3..2.
It's preventative measures like these which do the exact opposite of their intentions :v:
Legit question. Is there any way for devs to find out if their iOS app was pirated besides using an online check or seeing if the device is jailbroken? Piracy with apps is a big problem because of how easy it is to do, and people easily justify it because "lmao phone game, who cares???"

For those who have jailbroken devices, there is an app called flex where you could spoof the status of the device, or disable the jailbreak detection feature, it'll come out shortly.

Same shit happens with me on Skype. It's infuriating. I can't use Skype at all on my phone, because it decided that people that use jailbroken phones are not to use their product at all. So now I don't use Skype. And I won't be buying this game, even though I was considering it. Good job, companies.
Isn't Skype free? WTF?
It is, but it won't let you run the app on a jailbroken device. Why? I don't fucking know.
This kind of bullshit can't be legal. They're essentially knowingly selling a defective product.

It's not like people use guns in deus ex anyway v:v:v though the tutorial block is a low blow

Hopefully if you did buy this and you have a jailbroken device you can get a refund because this is insanely stupid [editline]11th July 2013[/editline] I don't know what iTunes's policy is on refunds, guess you'd have to put a claim in
I can't comprehend how Eidos thought that this would be a good idea. Nor can I understand why they'd make a phone exclusive Deus Ex game.
I think this is hilarious.
I think this is hilarious.
haha fuck iOS users android ftw :-)
Eidos, what a 180° turn. [editline]11th July 2013[/editline] As if releasing it for iOS only wasn't bad enough
