• Just how effective our British Helmets are...

Old, but incredibly... incredible.
While under fire from insurgents, he was hit in the head and thrown to the ground. But when his fellow soldiers came to help him they were amazed to see the bullet had embedded itself in his helmet, with just the tip sticking through into the inside. L/Cpl Maynard, from Lincoln, said: ''Literally out of nowhere I got shot in the helmet. I wasn't knocked out by the initial force of it but it knocked me straight onto my back. ''I knew I had been shot in the head but that was about it. ''It hit me about 2cm above my left eye, so I'm pretty lucky really. It only just penetrated the helmet so I have a very small cut on my forehead.
Awesome video shows exactly where he had been hit, lucky lucky man. All aboard the Late Train!
if they can't block anything then what use are they?
All aboard the Late Train!
CHOO CHOO! Nah but no one else posted this.
if they can't block anything then what use are they?
!?
if they can't block anything then what use are they?
Did you watch the video?
if they can't block anything then what use are they?
Feel of safety, protection against ricochets and shrapnel.
Feel of safety, protection against ricochets and shrapnel.
And bumping your head on stuff too :saddowns:
In WW1 99% of all combat deaths were from chest wounds, Soldiers aren't trained to aim for the head as a chest shot is just as lethal and much more accurate.
It sent him flying 3 METERS? From a Kalashnikov?
It sent him flying 3 METERS? From a Kalashnikov?
6ft is 2 meters, which is about his height. Basically he fell.
if they can't block anything then what use are they?
No military has a helmet that can stop a direct hit from an assault rifle.
Helmets were only ever designed to stop shrapnel and anything else short of a bullet that could cause head injury (like falling debris). The fact that this helmet managed to stop a bullet is proof that the British helmet goes beyond what it was built to do and is a very good design.
That guy so copied Saving Private Ryan But that was kind of impossible. It was an MG42
Lucky guy.
must have been small arms fire.. or a very bad shot they are not meant to stop bullets just shrapnel and falling debris anyway, this man is very lucky he should enter into the lottery now
That guy so copied Saving Private Ryan But that was kind of impossible. It was an MG42
Technically the bullet could have ricocheted first, then hit his helmet at a lower speed. Still pretty unlikely but.
This should happen in games too. 1% chance you won't die from a headshot :v:
This should happen in games too. 1% chance you won't die from a headshot :v:
Stupidly enough, most games let you survive headshots, Call Of Duty and Counterstrike to name a few. Killzone had instant kill headshots regardless of weapon but, which was good.
Well in their defense headshots aren't insta-kills in RL either. You're certainly not gonna just keep on fighting, but you don't just die instantly. And are you sure about Call of Duty? I'm pretty sure they're 1 hit kill no matter what. Battlefield 2 is one that doesn't have this however.
No military has a helmet that can stop a direct hit from an assault rifle.
Then why did his? suspose it could have been a ricochet.
Must've been the FUCKING GOD!
Headshot.
Just a bit late mate
Yay, helmets that protect peoples heads from bullets in a battlefield! What a novel idea!
His helmet stopped a bullet, this is a surprise? It did exactly what it was designed to do...
His helmet stopped a bullet, this is a surprise? It did exactly what it was designed to do...
It's designed to stop shrapnel/falling bricks primarily, but gives a good protection against some bullets too.
His helmet stopped a bullet, this is a surprise? It did exactly what it was designed to do...
not the purpose of a helmet
Helmets were only ever designed to stop shrapnel and anything else short of a bullet that could cause head injury (like falling debris). The fact that this helmet managed to stop a bullet is proof that the British helmet goes beyond what it was built to do and is a very good design.
So you are just going to give credit to the British? The fact that it stopped a bullet could be due to a large number of factors... basically he was lucky... there was no super engineering team, this doesn't really mean the british are the best helmet makers ever... It just means that this guy got extremely lucky. If the person who had fired been any closer it could have gone right through the helmet into his head, who knows. I am not putting the British down, I think every company who makes combat gear no matter for who, is doing a good job. But to say that it means the British are going beyond what they need to do seems unfair as if no other safety company is doing anything.
