Hey all, I'm buying some new upgrades for my gaming computer on a budget, trying to figure out if I should buy a new graphics card or new processor/motherboard. My current graphics card is a Nvidia 8800 GTS My current processor is an AMD dual core 2.6ghz I'm trying to decide which to upgrade--I'm leaning toward the processor/motherboard, but I'm not sure. Here is the processor/motherboard combo I'm thinking about buying: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103849 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128394 Also, the games I'm looking to improve my performance on are Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Left 4 Dead 2.
Get this Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128431 And This CPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808 (you don't need a x6 for those games) And what about RAM? If so get this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231274&cm_re=ddr3_1333_4gb-_-20-231-274-_-Product
budget? specs? PSU? country?
I already have 4gb of DDR2 RAM, don't see much use in upgrading to DDR3. I have a 550W Corsair PSU and live in the US.
I'm going to assume you have a budget of around $350. I would say get this and this if you have an AM2/AM2+/AM3 socket motherboard.

I can personally attest to the Cyclone, by the way. Should chew up anything you throw at it.
AMD Athlon II Quad AM3/AM2+/AM2 Motherboard (since you have DDR2 RAM) GTX 460/GTS 450/ATi 4870/GTX 260 [editline]15th October 2010[/editline] Also, what Odellus said. BUDGET!
The problem is that my motherboard only has an AM2 socket, won't work for a new processor.
the 955 will work in an AM2 motherboard
the 955 will work in an AM2 motherboard
Don't you mean AM+? I don't know.
Don't you mean AM+? I don't know.
no, AM3 CPUs will work on AM2 socket motherboards but his may or may not need a BIOS update
Don't you mean AM+? I don't know.
no with a simple BIOS upgrade he can use it in a AM2 board. (If his motherboard has the available update) Ninja'd
