So basically, if it comes to that, owning an xbone or 360 will be pointless if you have a Windows 10 computer?

It's Microsoft's longevity plan to get everyone onto windows 10 obviously
[editline]8th February 2017[/editline]
I understand how this works though, since the xbox one just runs windows 10, there really isn't anything technical stopping them from deploying the `emulation` application to run on a windows 10 PC. 360 games are recompiled (probably a bastardised word to use) to run on the new environment.
But it comes really comes down to hardware, since PC's are different, and consoles have always been "here's one or two different machines to target"
Cross that bridge, and a good decision internally, and then we could see this happening for real
360 Emulation? Does that mean we can FINALLY play Fable 2 on the PC?

Who cares about Fable.
Imagine. Halo 3. Halo 3: ODST. Halo Reach.

No, Red Dead Redemption is the game everyone will go apeshit about.

10 dollarydoos a month to play online
[editline]8th February 2017[/editline]
Sure online gaming on the PC is free, but I doubt they're going to give the more accessible platform access to online for backwards compatibility for free, since it's also a premium still for both consoles (including BC)
I love Phil Spencer.
Glad I upgraded to Win10 then. Get the original Xbox on track as well and we'll have some serious progress going.
Spencer also noted that compared to the Xbox One, which is backwards compatible with more than 300 Xbox 360 games, it would be "a lot more work" building an Xbox 360 emulator in Windows 10 that runs reliably across many different PC hardware configurations.
This is absolutely no excuse when you see what "amateurs" with no access to design documents have been doing on the emulator scene for the last 20 years, and here we are talking about engineers who designed both Windows and Xbox.
Maybe they could help open source efforts like Xenia so everyone could help preserve the system then possibly release a few games as downloads to play on it? Either way, them doing this would certainly help publishers actually get over their fear of publishing old games in emulated form.
I came across an article on gamespot regarding original xbox,
P3 mentioned that it has a lot of internal discussion from himself and the BC team
it's an article from a year and a half ago, I wonder if they've been working on this recently
as it's mentioned that they wanted to further develop 360 compatibility
Damn, I thought the title was "Phil Spencer leaves Microsoft". Heart skipped a beat there.
I wish they'd give us original Xbox emulation since you can't play those on an Xbone and not even the 360 has the full Xbox library
Once you stop supporting a console's games on a newer one you doom those games to eventually dying off unless thirdparty emulation takes care of it.

Yeah, I really like the direction he's leading the Xbox division so it scared the shit out of me and my heart sank momentarily.
nice i can play the 360 port of perfect dark without buying a xbox one or 360
its the perfect scheme

I hope someone reverse engineers the original Xbox emulation. At this point, anything can help. And the fact that something like the 3DO has emulation but the original Xbox doesn't bugs me.
It's going to be emulated so I wouldn't expect 60fps RDR
I never bought any home console but liked playing them at friends places instead.
Give me 360 emulation and I will buy 360 games.

The original XBox has been a constant problem for people trying to emulate it. It's been fucking decades and the furthest I've seen is a partially running version of Halo:CE.
There's something about the XBox architectures it seems that just makes emulating it way more awkward than it should be. Even the PS2, which had no documentation and was investigated largely on assumptions emulates better (and PCSX2 is a piece of shit for a lot of configurations still).
I honestly can't see the XBox emulation from the 360 even helping all that much. As it's once again, a totally different architecture to what a home PC uses. So you'd be reverse engineering something to reverse engineer it again from PowerPC to x86_64.

It's also the appeal. There really weren't many good xbox exclusives when you think about it.

It's a shame, the original Xbox did have some good exclusives. It's just that there isn't any reason to emulate the console unless someone somehow finds an easy way to emulate it.

Yeah, particularly with the original XBox, as MS were still cross publishing some of their key titles to PC (even if the ports weren't great/ "NOW ONLY ON VISTA"). Somewhat a shame really, as without a decent catalogue even people who are interested in the system itself have little reason to try and work it out really.

yes

what games are in a playable state? every video i've seen of xenia in action looks like this

Like what?
the death of console gaming is turning out to be a pretty good thing.
I wouldn't count 26 million for Xbox One and 50 million for PS4 as dying. Plus, they are little over 3 years old. The PS4 is almost selling as well as the PS2
Like what?
Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2
Blinx 1 & 2
Voodoo Vince
Amped 2 & Freestyle Snowboarding
Dead or Alive 3 & Ultimate
Forza Motorsport
Metal Wolf Chaos
Jet Set Radio Future
MechAssault 1 & 2
Unreal Championship 1 & 2
And if you want to throw some guilty pleasures in there, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, Dino Crisis 3, and Whacked! enjoyably campy. So it's not like the Xbox had no games.
