Well, better so long as they keep the writers consistent. But I didn't look too much into Pre-Sequel, just how bad was Burch to be vilified pretty much everywhere I do look?

Had Anthony Burch written it.

Take a guess who's responsible for this in-game babby whining response to complaints about BL2's near-reliance on memes.
Glad to see cuckold Burch isn't touching it. I might consider buying this now.
Anthony Burch ruined Borderlands for me. The guy's writing essentially corroded BL2 down to an infuriating mess of unfunny, uninteresting characters that can't live up to a cruelly underused main villain that was also later ruined in the pre-sequel because Burch just can't leave anything alone and had to run his only good creation to the ground by revealing everything about him, including his real face.
BL2 was tediously long enough as it was, his horrendous writing just turned a game that was a bit too long into an absolute drag.

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times, I'm Randy Pitchford. [sp]Or whoever is responsible for firing Burch and hasn't.[/sp]

Barely a handful of meme jokes is "near-reliance"? Granted, any at all is bad, but it's ridiculous how people have overblown things to make it look like the entire game is memes.
I think it's more q matter of people's differences in how they define the word meme, some people think of them as just internet catchphrases, while others think of them more as ideas, concepts and trends (which is more accurate to the original definition) that spread quickly and are currently running the gamut. BL2 came out at the same time the whole fancy gentleman top hat monocle thing was going about and that was very clearly the influence for sir hammerlock, Torgue was just one thise old fake brawndo ads or the "epic" commercials that it spawned made into a character.
Translation: Anthony Burch is not allowed to write the script for Tales.
Awww, no more epic memes :(
So basically the telltale game will be the best written borderlands game ever?
Thank fuck for that, maybe this time the first female character you meet won't announce she is a lesbian within the first few lines of dialogue for the sake of tumblrequality.

It is overblown, but it's also not a handful.
i keep forgetting that this game is a thing.

Define 'handful'. 16 different memes, including eight lines of common battle voice clips, most of which you will hear again and again throughout the game.
I count at least four on that list that are older than some of the Rust kids postal's banned recently.
And that's only direct references, never mind possible memetic uses of media references in the rest of the list on the page, nor the expanded 'meme' definition echo78 describes.

16 lines of dialogue out of thousands fits my definition of a "handful." And as far as the pop culture references page goes, that doesn't bother me in the slightest; plenty of games have pop culture references.
might be great, then

that's not an "expanded" definition, that's the real one. If anything you're not mad at memes, you're mad at how badly those 16 lines of dialog were hamfisted into the game with no consideration. There are plenty of open-world games with tons of references in them, New Vegas is a great example of that.
-actually I'm not going to start a dumb argument over memes-
whether BL2 had a reliance on memes or not, it doesn't change the fact that burch had a little hissy-fit over it in Pre-Sequel with lines like what elix had posted before

Lines? You mean line.
The misogyny and Memelands lines are the only "Burchy" things in the Pre-Sequel because it wasn't written by him. Two lines that everyone cherry-picks because memes killed their families.
Let me preface this by saying Borderland's has never been well written. But I think the go to criticism of "meme lands" is about as overblown as people spamming the picture of the elf chick from Dragon Age using a bow wrong. Continuously harping on one thing over and over starts to turn from criticism to nothing more than a hateboner circle jerk.
It's also frequently bandied about with out context, I played BL2 with a friend of mine for hours and only ever noticed the memes a few times. I noticed far more frequently how cringingly bad the dialogue between characters was and how bi-polar the tone of the game came off. Among other things like shitty AI and a gimmick (gorrillion weapons) that wore out it's welcome half way into the first game.
Also I don't know much about all of this Anthony Burch e-insider bullshit, but stop. Constantly referring to him like he's the Cobra Commander of bad writing is silly.

anthony burch shouldn't be allowed to write anything

That was that wacky scientist lady right?
-on second thought I seem to be completely wrong about who's the lesbian, so snip-
That was that wacky scientist lady right?
Tannis never really had her sexuality thrown in anyone's face. I don't think Burch wrote for her, really.
There was another scientist who was lesbian but she wasn't wacky.

"Near reliance"

Actually whoever wrote that (wasn't Burch btw) did a pretty great job. You can tell because it seems to strike a nerve with the people who act like mindless robots hitting their keyboards bitching about memes.
Borderlands 2 didn't suck because of Memes.
It sucked because Anthony Burch is a child, a child who has had hissy fits on twitter because people DARED to criticize his writing which at best, is just unfunny, and at worse, shills out his Tumblr ideology.
Plus he loves blowing Anita "Most things in video games is sexism, right?" Sarkeesan.
I am so glad that Telltale is doing ToTB, because Burch would just take the opportunity to shill out his personal beliefs some more into a video game.

Also for having a fit because his "amazing writing" didn't get a certain game award I can't recall at the moment.
