http://www.macrumors.com/2011/12/15/samsung-turning-dispute-with-apple-to-its-advantage-in-australian-marketing/
With the preliminary injunction banning sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia now lifted, Samsung is turning the dispute with Apple to its advantage, noting that the lawsuits have made Samsung a "household name" according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
"At the end of the day the media awareness certainly made the Galaxy Tab 10.1 a household name compared to probably what it would've been based on the investment that we would've put into it from a marketing perspective," [Samsung Australia vice president of telecommunications Tyler McGee] said. Asked how many units of the Galaxy Tab Samsung was bringing in, McGee said "as many units as we can" but warned "there will probably be short supply against the demand".
Apple was granted an injunction blocking the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia back in mid-October, with Samsung reporting that it may scrap the device's launch entirely there if the injunction was not lifted in time for the holiday shopping season. The injunction was indeed lifted in late November, but Apple won a one-week extension that carried the ban through to December 9th as it unsuccessfully tried to appeal the lifting of the injunction. The case will proceed to full trial next year. Meanwhile, Engadget points to a Tweet from @maungle showing a new Galaxy Tab 10.1 newspaper ad from Samsung carrying the tagline "The Tablet Apple Tried to Stop," illustrating how Samsung is seeking to tie its advertising to the lawsuit and portray the tablet device as so significant a threat that Apple felt the need to prevent it from going on sale.
That's fucking sweet, and I'm even posting this from my iPad. Go Samsung!
Epic Win.
That's pretty genius actully and since Apple actully tried to stop it hitting the shops they can't sue them for the marketing.
Apple must be sore from that ass fucking Samsung gave them.
Nicely played Samsung. I hope you succeed!
Apple be mad
And the tables turn :v:
Someone's gonna need some ointment now.
And the tables turn :v:
should've said Tablet.. :(
Go Samsung!
This is such a zing :v: [editline]17th December 2011[/editline] Oh god reading the comments in the source makes me want to vomit. They are all blind fanboys who are fuming basically saying Apple deserves to own the concept of a tablet.

Problem: Tab, iPad, and tablets like this cost as much as a laptop. It's $300 around here, and that's the same price for this decent PC.
If I had the money to buy any of these tablets, I would rather spend the money on any of the much better equipped netbooks or notebooks.
Asus EEE Transformer series with the keyboard dock. It's like a netbook, but STILL a tablet :eng101:
If I had the money to buy any of these tablets, I would rather spend the money on any of the much better equipped netbooks or notebooks.
I actually had the money and went for the Asus Transformer a few months back. All of my scepticism over tablets vanished over the first night, and I now bring it with me everywhere. (except for a walk up the town, but that's obvious) It's amazing for watching films, youtube, livestreams and so on and isn't too bad as an ebook reader. Obviously not as good for games and the operating system, but 16 hours worth of webbrowsing and videos is good enough for me. I've actually done a fair bit of my physics work on it, too, using the keyboard, and my finger for odd notation (e.g, a fast 2 in subscript, as opposed to ^2, or navigating menus / the taskbar to find subscript)
for some reason, a lot of you are stuck on the idea that you can't design things differently. you know, "apple shouldn't sue because you can't make a tablet look any different!" but that is so, soooo wrong. there is a total lack of differentiation and diversity. a lot of companies are taking the same approach, if not imitating each other, and samsung is a perfect example.

Chop-chop I'm waiting. [sp]you're stupid and it astounds me that you don't know it[/sp]
should've said Tablet.. :(
Oh god... Just died inside...
You're right, Samsung, make a pentagram shaped tablet. Chop-chop I'm waiting.
okay. look at the galaxy s in comparison to an iPhone 3G. both have a bezel treatment, clearly referenced icons, similar proportions. hell, some of samsung's *promotions* are ridiculously similar to some of apple's. and then there's phones like the nexus one and xperia which prove that it's not impossible to have a phone that's not an emotionless iphone. even by looking at the side profiles of some recent tablets, samsung's are easily mistakable for an ipad.
That's fucking sweet, and I'm even posting this from my iPad. Go Samsung!
Watch out it might spontaneously combust.

You need a little. Also icons are icons, there's only so many fucking ways to make a icon for email, calendar, browser and the market. Seriously.

Nice photoshopped image exiam. Here's the truth.
I like how in the "similar proportions" the screen borders DON'T LINE UP.
the definition of similar is : "having a resemblance in appearance, character, or quantity, without being identical.". which also means that samsung's designers have a hint of originality in them!
That doesn't justify anything you're claiming. First off, the Galaxy series is mostly 4 inch+ screens. They have the home, menu and back buttons. There's only so many ways to design a device and black bezel is black bezel.

That's borderlining to nitpicking. See where the Iphone has it's speaker? yeah Samsung decided to move it up a little and plant their name where Apple has the speaker. And green is considered the color to pick up the phone, so it's kinda obvious that the phone icon has a green background. Should it be red instead? And black doesn't go well with green nor do many other colors, so the landline phone silhouette is obviously white. Only thing and might be true is the bezel, but If I'm not mistaken the Samsung phone is actually a little bit taller, but someone shooped it to to have the same dimensions as the Iphone. See? And let us not forget Steve job's golden line: Good artists copy, great artists steal Which he apparently stole from Picasso.
