Workers blockading oil refineries in France have told Sky News they will continue to stop fuel leaving - even if President Nicolas Sarkozy sends in the riot police.
All 12 of the country's refineries have been closed by striking workers protesting over pension reforms.
France is beginning to suffer with more than 3,000 service stations out of nearly 12,500 now out of fuel, the government said.
At the main oil refinery just outside Paris, protesters are becoming more militant as the strike continues.
Local CGT Union representative Franc Menchant says everyone wants to continue the fight.
"We've been on strike since the 12th and the refinery stopped operating last Friday.
The picket is continually manned. It feels like we will die here," he told Sky.
Riots in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre
Mr Sarkozy is not impressed by the industrial action and has vowed to crackdown on illegal blockades.
On his orders, police have cleared access to 21 oil depots since last Friday.
The government claims supplies will start flowing again soon and is urging motorists not to panic buy.
But that message seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
At petrol stations across France there are long queues as frustrated drivers try to get their hands on increasingly precious supplies.
Police have been called in to clear access to oil depots
The industrial and social unrest has been going on for more than six weeks and has affected the entire country.
Protests have been mainly peaceful but there has been sporadic violence in the city of Lyon and the Parisian suburb of Nanterre where students have clashed with police.
According to the Interior Ministry, 1,500 alleged rioters have been arrested.
In Lyon, youths pillaged stores, torched cars and fought street battles with police.
Riot police take up position in Lyons
Officers tear-gassed about 300 youths in groups around the central Bellecour square after calling in 800 extra officers to deal with the trouble.
There is widespread anger at Mr Sarkozy's pension reform bill which will see the retirement age rise from 60 to 62.
The bill is expected to pass through the senate either at the end of the week or early next week.
Transport and oil workers have vowed to keep up the strike action even if the pension bill becomes law.
They hope their action will eventually see it overturned or rewritten.
I really don't get why France is in such an uproar. Pension age is going from 60 to 62, big fucking deal, it's been 65 in the Netherlands for years.
Stupid thing is that a lot of young people are rioting. Can somebody explain that to me.

This is just how they do things in France, whereas anywhere else in the world people just complain and get on with it, the French go on strike and burn cars.

Young people are the ones that an increased pension age will affect. Pensioners obviously aren't going to give a shit.

The French never seem to be apathetic towards politics, it's actually great.
Most of the young people in france that are protesting are made up of the generic scum that don't even know what they're protesting against in the first place, they're thrill-seeking pieces of shit.
Its ridiculous they only work until their 60s in anyway, most other countries have an retirement age of around 65.

Most other countries are shit for the working class.

It is a big deal, because your pension (for U.S as a example) is pro-rated at the age you begin drawing from it. For example if you're sixty years of age and start drawing it you get lets say 1,000 dollars a month. If you start drawing pension at sixty-three years of age you get 1,500 dollars a month. For these guys it means they have to work for 2 years longer to get the starting 1,000 dollars rather then 1,500 dollars.
Though I'm sure more is going on with this, most people don't riot simply because of this.

What a badass.
The thing with the french is, they love a bit of social disorder. Protesting is just what they do and they do it without giving a fuck about who it affects.
This is just how they do things in France, the French go on strike and burn cars.
That is how it should be.
That is how it should be.
No it's fucking not. Protest, fine whatever, but whose cars are being burned, whose shops are being smashed and looted? Ordinary people that's who.
Well fuck... I'm going to france in a month.

France has TONS of riots. It's so common place, they aren't even announced. They very much take their right to free speech seriously. It seems they like rioting so much, they riot instead of using sense sometimes.
I wish here in Romania people would actually protest like this, this kind is actually needed here cause the government will listen. All they do is amass and protest peacefully, but the government simply ignores them since it doesn't affect them. I heard that soon they'll amass like 70.000 to 90.000 protesters (and just so you see how bad it is I'll say the worker classes that are protesting:health care, police, farmers, financial workers, miners, teachers and much much more, all I can hope is that the students will soon join in and start being violent). But fuck's sake it'd be better if they'd just start throwing rocks instead of eggs and just swear and be violent, they'll finally be listened at least and even maybe those retards that run the country now would pussy out.

Don't wish for riots dude, people get hurt, people have their lives ruined, it's never worth it.
People fought and died for democracy in Romania, France, Ireland, America, everywhere there are elections people have bled for them. But what is the point in all that if when decisions are made that you don't agree with, you just burn shit down till they change their minds.
If you have a greviance, be active, protest, show your opposition but please, leave the violence out.

Violence is not the answer.
France is a lazy country.
I for one would like every country to be like France.

Oh boy this is gonna be the Greece riots all over again isn't it?
I see communists

For today's forecast we have a high pressure car front mixing with a fire system and it'll be bringing some signs and black flames throughout various parts of the country. Those in the northwest should be on the lookout for a category 17 car front expected to make landfall Saturday

Strikes yes, but I don't think they riot all the time.
Adding two years is how it starts, and then they push it further and further until before you know it the retirement age is in one's seventies. They are rioting to put a stop to it now.

Oh, like Canada? I hear it's a real hell hole for the working man with their pension age of 65. Lazy fucking scum.
