I would like to note to the moderator team that if this thread is in the wrong section or does not belong here, they are free to move and/or remove this thread from the General Discussion or the website in general. I am just creating this thread with the intent to help inform a large majority of Facepunch users. Posting in General Discussion allows for a larger target audience who are free to willingly devote 2 minutes of their reading time into this, as well as to discuss this if they wish. Running a Windows operating system? Are you tired of cropping your screen-capped image to just the one window shown? Or are you just inexperienced with MS Paint and other image editing tools? Then look no further! With this simple trick just press ALT and then PrtScrn while on the active window you want, open up MS Paint or your favourite image editing software, then paste and save. What you will notice is that Windows will automatically crop it to the active window shown just for you! In fact Windows makes sure that don't need to do any of the cropping by yourself. Sounds too far fetched doesn't it? Example: But wait, why am I telling you this? I've noticed that whenever someone needs to take a screen shot of an application they are running on their desktop, be it for technical support and showing off, most of the time they are looking to save time or are just inexperienced to crop it themselves. A major reason for this is because this results in an unnecessarily larger file size and image resolution, which is both annoying for users with small resolution monitors and users with small bandwidth limits. What if I am running a Mac? No problem! Go to the window you want to screen-cap. Hold down the apple key, shift and 4, then release all the keys. If done right you will see your mouse cursor change to a +. Press spacebar. Now your mouse cursor will change to a camera, from there just simply select the window you want to take an image of. Once done the image will be saved to your desktop. That's it! Unix/Linux? Make sure that your mouse cursor is on the active window you want to take an image of. Then hold down ALT and press PrtScrn. Once that's done paste your screen shot in your favourite image editing software and save. All done. Hopefully this can be of help to a lot of people, and if you already knew this, then that's even more great. :eng101:

This was discovered in Windows 3.1, and none of you including me should not even have our post counted.
Somebody told me about this a few months ago. It's pretty neat, but you're late by a few years.
Well I didn't know this so I give you a heart.
late r8 l8 m8 clocks cocks clock [editline]01:14AM[/editline] this was found out long ago
Not everyone knows of this, and I would feel happy informing a large majority of Facepunch users in their own time.

I think it's easier to just get a decent screenshotting program if you're going to be taking screenshots

I use this awesome app called ZScreen. It automatically takes a image, crops it, and uploads it to practically any image host.
This should come useful when someone makes a "Post your Steam games" thread again.
i found this out in college a couple of years ago, its useful.
Holy fuck this is awesome. I never knew this. Rated heart because you're awesome.
holy shit... did not know this
News to me, Usefull too.
Knew this, but useful to others.
:monocle: Suddenly, life got a little bit easier. Have a heart.
I wish I knew of a program that will make your windows actually have the correct transparency and shadow. Like this:
Awesome.
What the fuck is wrong with me, I only just found out about the windows shake thing and now this.
I remember KSI had made a program or something which was even better. You had to press one button and it would printscreen the app that was open + it automatically uploaded it on a site (I forgot the name of it, it's a pretty known site for uploading(and backupping) files, + automatically copy the link to clipboard. So you just pressed a button, and then you could CTRL+V immedeatly afterwards
