Hello, Facepunch. First and formerly, get yourselves a nice chuckle as I know nothing about PC building. Though I do know that my current Dell Optiplex GX280 sucks complete ass, and it's time for an upgrade. My current specs on my abomination of a PC: So yeah, it's time for a new upgrade. Unfortunately my Optiplex motherboard doesn't support anything higher than Pentiums, so that means a new motherboard as well. So, here's the best part; I only have $165 :suicide: I looked around, and these are pretty much the only cheap processor / motherboard combos I could find in my price range: Phenom II Dual-Core with a Biostar TA880GB Phenom II Quad-Core with the exact same Biostar TA880GB. Only twenty four dollars more than the Dual-Core  Athalon Dual-Core with, the Biostar TA880GB I heard that the Athalon isn't the best, that or I read wrong. Convieniently the motherboard included with all of those processors fit all of my other parts, (Except ram, that isn't a problem.) So, Facepunch, I'm currently more lost than a baby puppy in New York. For now I'll assume the Quad-Core is the best but is it worth it? And if there are any other processors and motherboards that are better / cheaper, please help me out. Thanks for your time!
1. You're going to need new RAM, or a AM3 motherboard that supports DDR2 2. Is the case standard ATX?
I recomend saving up and doing a new computer build. Tom's hardware did an article in march in system building. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc-cpu-overclock-best-compouter-component,2902.html Note: Prices change

I can also get 4gb of DDR3 1600 for about 40 bucks, which my dad said he'd cover. I have a power supply. At this rate I desperately need a new processor, my computer it pretty much falling to it's knees right now.
I think I'll go for the quad core, since I found a case and I convinced my dad to get the RAM The only reason he's buying it is because he's shocked it's only 40 bucks :v:
just.... save your money. It'll be worth it in the long run to build a new machine. Promise.
Also, is that PSU you mentioned from your current prebuilt? If it is, you'll most likely have to get a new one.
If you absolutely have to spend money now, depending on what games you play you would probably see a bigger increase in performance from a new graphics card. The 9500GT is absolutely awful.
