:siren: Warning: This thread contains British politics and may not be suitable for the non-British! :siren: Hello all, I just typed up an e-mail to my MP in response to a "Economic Choice Survey" I recieved today. Before I send it I thought I'd get some feedback. Here's the e-mail:
Hello I recieved your survey today and found it quite entertaining. At first I was surprised at how biased the questions were. However, I then remembered that you are an MP and it is to be expected. Allow me to explain what I mean: Question 1: Should we plan to halve the deficit over 4 years, or risk the recovery & job losses by cutting it too hard & fast? Straight away you can see the question is biased towards halving it over 4 years (as it is what your party intends to do) due to the use of words that I have highlighted in the question above. These two words, strategically placed, attempt to manipulate the reader into thinking cutting the deficit hard and fast is too risky. Question 2: Do you support the Tory plan to cut inheritance tax, giving £200,000 to the wealthiest 3,000 families? Unless I'm one of the 3,000 wealthiest families, of course I don't. Here is a prime example of the way politics work - appeal to the majority and sit on the fence when voters' opinions are not suggesting a major trend. Also, as far as I can tell, the Conservatives are not raising the IHT for the highlighted reason (not that I support them anymore than Labour) - the cut in IHT will affect all families' inheritance. Question 3: Do you think it's fair that in these difficult times... I'm not even going to finish typing this question. The suggestive nature of this question is just so blatant... Question 4: Do you support plans to tax bankers' bonuses? Bankers have become one of the public's the biggest enemies as of late. The options "NO" and "NOT SURE" are probably unnecessary. Question 5: Should we learn lessons from our previous recessions... Are you beginning to see a trend here? Question 6: How likely are you to vote Steve McCabe? My answer is between 0 and 2. Question 7: I can help Steve McCabe MP deliver leaflets. This one made me chuckle to myself. In conclusion, politics isn't about what's best for the country anymore. Everyone is in it for themselves and it's about staying in power as long as you can...
Good job, but you will have accomplished nothing as all of your efforts will simply be ignored
You'll probably get a generic response with your name pasted into the gaps.
You'll probably get a generic response with your name pasted into the gaps.
Saxton Hale?
In conclusion, politics isn't about what's best for the country anymore. Everyone is in it for themselves and it's about staying in power as long as you can...
That last bit's silly, the rest is funny though.
Send it. If you don't get a reply, send more.
Good job, but you will have accomplished nothing as all of your efforts will simply be ignored
Yeah, probably. :saddowns:
Just e-mail them goatse, That's more likely to get their attention than your sarcastic attempt to insult them.
Carry on emailing, get everyone on the street to copy, paste And email! Wait or FP could do it :smug:
We got a survey that had spelling mistakes, grammar errors and even had a "u" instead of a "you". My dad took the piss out of each and every question when he sent it back. Shame I can't remember them :P
I got a survey in the mail the other day asking me if I'm FOR CANADIAN SOVEREIGNTY or AGAINST CANADIAN SOVEREIGNTY. I don't see what a mayoral election had to do with this
You're starting to sound like Timothy McVeigh.
You should make it a more of an angry letter, so that you make them tremble in fear of your vocabulary
You should make it a more of an angry letter, so that you make them tremble in fear of your vocabulary
I kept it as civil as I could. Angry mail is more likely to be ignored. I infact have recieved a response from Steve McCabe and it is as follows:
Dear Mr <my name> Thanks for your comments. All feedback is welcome even that which is hostile. I think I already saw your comments on a LibDem blog somewhere so I guess I’ve got a fair idea where you’re coming from. Not sure you really understood the purpose of the survey or Labour’s economic message but then I don’t understand that of the LibDems. I notice you haven’t included your address, are you the Mr <my name> who lives in <my old road> Road. Best wishes Steve McCabe
He seems to think that I'm a Liberal Democrat supporter and claims that I didn't understand the purpose of the survey, yet he didn't "enlighten" me. Also, was quoting my (old) address supposed to intimidate me?
I sent one a few hours ago, to my local MP, about the Digital Economy Bill bullshit.
I whipped up a response:
Thank you for the swift response. I would first like to point out that I have not seen this LibDem blog you speak of and secondly that I am not a LibDem supporter. If I'd have received the same letter from any political party I would give the same feedback regardless. Also, you claim I don't understand the purpose of the survey or Labour's economic message - would you care to enlighten me? I admit I'm no expert at politics (the whole thing makes me sick) but just claiming that I don't understand isn't enough for me. I need explaination and if I'm incorrect, I'll welcome the new knowledge. Thanks P.S. I'm not sure what you attempted to do by including my (old) road in your e-mail - intimidation, maybe?

I sent one a few hours ago, to my local MP, about the Digital Economy Bill bullshit.
Post here if you get a response. I'm curious as to what they will say.
You should try and scare him back and say that posting someones address over a potentially unsecure connection is a privacy risk and blah blah blah so on.
You should try and scare him back and say that posting someones address over a potentially unsecure connection is a privacy risk and blah blah blah so on.
The idea has potential, but wouldn't anything with my name and address on (like letters) be a privacy risk?
They will read it and laugh. Then they will send you 2 girls 1 cup and say it's a video response.
