• Monitor screen is tinted red?
    14 replies, posted
On the monitor I am currently using (IE I'm using it right now at this second), everything will be normal for one second, and then everything will be tinted yellow for a few seconds, then red. It has been doing this for a few weeks but I've ignored it so far. I have had this monitor for about four-ish years, and have had no problems beforehand with it. If I plug it into another computer, it's either yellow or purple. Other help I've recieved has been to turn it off, unplug it, and leave it alone for a while. That worked for a few hours, but then it was back to red again. I think it might be nearing the end of its life. Has anyone else had this problem?
Get a new one.
Get a new one.
top quality advice there...
Try a different cable if possible, and make sure it is snug.
Get a new one.
hint: the object is to recieve an answer that does not involve buying a new one if possible
Get a new graphics card, it's probably not the monitor. I also tried a different monitor in my current computer, and it worked fine. I jsut don't want to get rid of the thing unless I know it's near death.

Try a hardware surplus store, you can get a really good CRT for a great price. I got my 21" CRT for $20 two years ago, no dead pixels, best monitor I've ever owned. But it likely wouldn't be just a tint difference, it would be a really pixelated grainy change in appearance.

Have any magnets come in contact with it recently? A strong magnet will do things like that sometimes.
Sounds like your VGA cable is going out. If possible, replace that first.
I think it might be something inside of the monitor. I advised my wife not to hit it, but when it gets knocked around a little, it'll go back to normal for a bit, but then it'll be red again. Just moving the monitor will sometimes work as well. Maybe something inside it is loose. I mean, we didn't hit it or drop it regularly or anything when it worked fine, so I'm sure that isn't the reason it's red.

What kind of monitor is it? Model number?

I mean, it is a Compaq monitor, but it's more recent than that. edit That would make sense though, because if it really is that old then it must be almost dead by now. I've had a cable cause my monitor to be tinted red. Jiggling it fixed the problem. I eventually bought a new monitor because that one was crap anyway. A DVI cable being loose has different results than a loose VGA cable, too. Some posters here may not realize this.
