Bank clerk’s snooze puts £190m into pensioner’s account
A DOZY bank clerk accidentally put €222,222,222.22 into a pensioner’s account – after falling asleep with a finger on the ‘2’button.
The blunder handed the equivalent of £190million to an account holder – although the huge sum was later repaid.
The case emerged when a supervisor at the bank in Hassen, Germany, was fired on the spot for not noticing the error.
However the 48-year-old woman took her bosses to a labour court claiming wrongful dismissal.
She claimed that the mistake was made after she had already checked more than 800 documents.
And in a ruling today, the court said she should have received a warning rather than being sacked.
It also ordered that she be reinstated.
The bank, which has not been named, accused the worker of waving through documents instead of properly checking them.
Pretty understandable considering that she already went through 800 documents already, even I would have a hard time not making a mistake like she did. That and to be fired on the spot is really kinda stupid.
Got to admit considering it was such an obvious mistake and you've got to factor in fatigue an on the spot dismissal was a pretty moronic thing to do. She was fully within the right to take them to court.
Making a mistake is one thing, we all do that. Falling asleep at work is not a mistake, lol. Falling asleep at work is the equivalent of not showing up to work. I bet she was wide awake for her lunch though.

And you think people should immediately lose their jobs on the spot for that?

the fuck does that mean?
for falling asleep at work? Hell yes

You cannot possibly be serious...

She could have costed the bank a fortune. I can see why they would want to have her fired. I feel sorry for the pensioner, having all the excitement and getting it crushed.

Do you really think the banks don't have a clause in their contract that let them take back wrongful payments?
You're an idiot if you think that you get to keep the money after a mistake like that.
"Pensioner" is such a common word in Britain, it's so odd

I'm fairly certain it's actually a crime to keep large, unexplained sums of money that appear in your account because of a bank error. A couple of months back a woman got jailed because the exact same thing happened to her and she didn't declare it.
It doesn't cost the bank anything.

This reminds me of the time I accidently dialled 999 after phasing out in the middle of dialling a number (our numbers start with 9). Some guy obviously answered the phone and I was like "ohshit" so I put the phone back on the receiver. But when I picked it up again, he was still there. Put it down again, picked it up after 5 seconds. HE WAS STILL THERE.
Needless to say I ran off practically pissing myself thinking about whether we'd be charged or whether I'd delayed an ambulance that could have saved a life.
Luckily they just phoned us back and told me to wise the fuck up. Still not going to make that mistake again.
They fired the SUPERVISOR, not the clerk.
Big difference between the two.
How do you manage to fall asleep on happen to lay on the 2 button
Your finger would slip and you'd hit over keys
and what the fuck is the change she'd manage to hit the enter key too
Stupid, and a warning? A guy got fired for it and she got a warning? Jesus

The warning was for the supervisor.
If I worked at a bank I would do this to every single persons bank account before I quit/retire.
Just give away billions of dollars back to the people hehehe.

Except they wouldn't actually receive any money and you might get jailed for it.
Ha, my sister accidentally put the incorrect amount in someone's bank account once. She got fired on the spot after working at the bank for years. Sucks how a small mistake like that can fuck you over (albeit 2 million dollars isn't exactly a small mistake). I guess it's understandable why they'd be sacking people.

then get arrested for mass fraud

Looking at it from the boss's position, it's understandable.
That kind of transfer could seriously fudge a large business's workings, even if they got it back fairly promptly.
If I'm paying you and your on the clock and you fall asleep, you're getting fired. I'm paying you to work not sleep. Entering the wrong number, if entering numbers is your job, doesn't seem to be grounds for instant dismissal. Everyone makes mistakes. However, if you have a history of entering wrong numbers, then you should expect to be fired.

I dunno what to say to you.
Go get a job, work stupid long hours, work holidays and don't tell me you're fine and will never doze off. Just remember your words, if you fuck up and get fired don't cry about it.
People make mistakes, people are just that human, sometimes after doing a tedious task or physically draining task the body just says off with you and goes to sleep.
You're also adding in things that have not been mentioned "History of entering wrong numbers" get real will you. Lets see your work being perfect every time after doing it 800 times.
Problem with people getting exhausted in the work place isn't with the worker, it is with the employer. People get worked far to hard and for far to long often with shitty pay. Your statement and the other statements you made above are exactly what is wrong with this industry. People are looked at far to often as commodities they can buy. I pay you = I own you mentality.

I wouldn't exactly say she was sleeping on the job. Try to imagine it's your job everyday to just type the number "1" into a box and close the file down, you will soon get so bored you'll think every key is "1", sometimes you'll even type "11" maybe "111" and have to fix it - you have to do this task for 6 hours everyday and any mistake will result in the manager babbling about using spell check, calculator or never making a mistake again (or else).
