So... why is he on everest?
Why not?
Why not?
He's supposed to be making a game.
He's supposed to be making a game.
He doesn't have to.
He can still do other things with his own personal life ya know.
Video games aren't the entire planet, universe, life, and everything in between.
He's supposed to be making a game.

Although the timing is poor for my sabatical, it is not something planned on a whim and involves non-refundable costs of up to $100k.
I'm guessing it was planned well in advance.
I don't understand why people are getting angry on twitter over this. They haven't paid a single cent yet, they're owed nothing.
He's supposed to be making a game.
game devs have lives
He went from basically a nobody to the lead developer behind a multiple hundred thousand user mod in less than a month. What better way to get away from that than climbing a freezing desolate mountain?
He's supposed to be making a game.
From his Twitter in reply to someone that asked the same thing:
I don't owe you anything, you've paid me nothing. It's a long planned trip. I'd rather not make games if I couldnt live life
The DayZ team are still working on the project full time, just without him. It would make sense if he had a deadline and people had paid for it, but that would be silly.
The reason I have so much faith in the standalone being great is because he doesn't have a set deadline and is under no pressure to get it released; combined with the fact that he has a clear understanding and set of principles around what should/shouldn't be done to the game and how to make it better than the mod.
but less complicated system to that of the popular ACARS radio mod for Arma 2.
the what
i assume they mean ACRE

Yeah I got it, you're about the third person to tell me this now.
I just have trust issues after Notch.

yes because game developers must constantly work and it's not like anything outside of game development can influence them or their performance.

I understand that, I don't know what more I need to tell you.
HOW DARE HE CLIMB A MOUNTAIN AND NOT BUILD A GAME
Wow I can't wait for this radio system, they came up with some really cool shit, like listening in on transmitting radios.
the what

ACRE is pretty much perfect, so if he uses a less complicated system that everyone can use, it's gonna be amazing. I mean just look up any ACRE footage on the tube and see how good it works
well the voip can't really compete with ts3 in terms of quality so let's hope it can be improved without using too much bandwidth
How do you expect a game developer to build extreme game experiences without having experienced such things himself? I think it's wonderful he's climbing the Everest. Games can be inspired by almost anything you encounter in your life.

Don't mistake your entitlement issues for trust issues.
I understand that, I don't know what more I need to tell you.
Then why isn't he allowed to climb Mt Everest, instead of "He's supposed to be making a game"
Then why isn't he allowed to climb Mt Everest, instead of "He's supposed to be making a game"
I was wrong and I admitted that two posts ago.
What a fucking awesome guy. Climbing the tallest mountain in the world and making a pretty awesome game.
wow hes just like notch!!1
Hopefully when the new map gets made. it will have some nice realistic mountains now.
I really hope they bring in some sort of squad-like spawning, so you can spawn in reasonable distance of your friends when you join with a fresh new character. I loved DayZ, but getting started, finding your friends and getting the group together was such a hassle. If they employ such a new system, if one or more of the group die due to a bandit or zombie or whatever, the entire group can choose to respawn anew, all together, or keep going and have the dead guy respawn and catch up.
People are really getting mad over the silliest of things.

Welcome to humanity.
It's a game that is hasn't been on preorder or what not, He's show'd progress in his work an stuff. Who cares if you have trust issues with notch, rocket and them aren't your 'boyfriends'. For that, you should go see someone or something because that's just silly.
Highest Devblog update in the world:
At least until that Snoop Dog game starts development.
Good for him; if anything the climbing experience might convince him to add climbing gear to the game ala Molly from Walking Dead. :v:
