• Random computer crashing during games

I've recently upgraded from a 512MB Sapphire HD4670 to a 1GB Sapphire HD5830. Occasionally during games the computer will crash (it did not do so with the HD4670). I've installed the correct Catalyst drivers for Windows 7 64-bit, and even reinstalled Windows 7 itself to solve the issue. The issue persists, and here is a list of solutions and their outcomes: Software: Tried installing and reinstalling the catalyst drivers and all that crap. Also reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows. Issue remains. CPU: Changed from an Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.67GHz (Q6700 I think) to an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3GHz (E7500 I think). Issue remains. However in FurMark with the Duo the computer can survive at 89c for a few minutes (20 minutes in total, compared to around 5 minutes with same settings in the Quad, which crashes at around 70c). GPU: To check to make sure the HD5830 wasn't the issue itself, I tried in a HD5870. Issue remained, rather the same as the HD5830. RAM: To cleck if one of the RAM sticks was dody (I use 2x2 at 800MHz), I tried taking one out, testing computer, then putting it back in and taking out the other (followed by testing on that. Computer lasted notably longer, but only by a bit. I've since put back the other RAM stick, so I'm at 2x2 again. Heating: I've tried all the parts in a different case (one with ventilation to suit a HD5870 with no problems) and issue remained. I've since gone back to my original case. Motherboard: I used the Motherboard that supported the computer with the HD5870 but the issue remained, infact was even worse. Rather than crash in graphic intense games, the computer crashed on the desktop. Power Supply: My current power supply is 625W. I've tried other power supplies of same wattage but issue remained. --- The only thing I haven't done is change the hard drive, which I am rather lazy and is why I came here to get help from you guys. That was all that I've tried, but I have one final solution, and was wondering if anyone else had any other ideas: On the +12V circuit on the power supply, the Amperage on it is 16A and 18A, making a total of 34A. On a Guru3D guide to the HD5830, they recommended at least 35-40A. I've received advice from the owner of the HD5870 computer that this bit of information doesn't really matter, but I suppose it does. One would be correct to assume that a Dual Core CPU used less Amperage than a Quad Core CPU, which explains why the computer lasts notably longer. As a way to convince the owner of the HD5870 computer, I want confirmation on this, so I can test out his power supply which has +40A I believe. I've harassed him enough, but this should finally stop this grief. If anyone else has any ideas to fix this computer, then shoot away. Don't respond with "build a new computer" because I'm not made of money.
