FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
A Fresno man who says he is so poor he only had $1 for lunch on Tuesday ending up finding $125,000.
Joe Cornell was volunteering at the Salvation Army in Downtown Fresno when he found an orange bag in the middle of the street.
"I was watering my plants and my trees when an armored car stopped at the corner," says Joe Cornell, "A car pulled up saying that the 'Brinks' driver dropped something, but the armored car kept going."
When Cornell went to see what was going on he found a large orange bag. Cornell says when he looked inside the bag there was a ton of cash inside on of it.
"I thought 'What type of man do I want my grandkids to think I am?'," says Cornell, "I want them to think I'm a just man that does the right thing and I did the right thing."
Cornell says he called the police and they interviewed him about what happened. The officer told him, he was one in a million, because not everybody would have turned the cash in.
The Good Samaritan volunteers for the 'Salvation Army' and is in their rehabilitation program.
"I'm trying to get my life together and I want them to be proud of me. I decided to do the right thing," adds Cornell.
Bloody hell this man sure is nice as fuck
i hope he gets compensated in some way for returning the bag
uh I would of have trouble even looking inside it.
you can't put a price on keeping your dignity. good on him.

An armored car rolled up, pointed out to him that someone else had dropped a bag, and just left?
I'm sure there's one hell of a story behind this money, but it's probably not pretty.
I hope the bank the car was delivering too will give him a compensation.
Ah, who am I kidding, bankers are assholes

A man who does not starve himself while filling pockets for the rich.

It was a different car pointing it out to the armored car, who ignored the car.

Yeah, because banks are actually about storing one man's wealth and not everyones.
Strong guy, I would've taken it.
Yeah, because banks are actually about storing one man's wealth and not everyones.
They wouldn't even notice it in their reports if something as small as 125k went missing.

No. An armored car was making a stop on the corner. Brinks dude left or dropped a bag and pulled away. Then a car rolls by the guy in the article and points out to him that the Brinks car left a bag.
It does sound pretty weird either way, especially if the security guard dropped the bag and didn't pick it up, as opposed to simply forgetting it on the ground and thinking he had everything squared away. Fishy stuff, I too hope theres some sort of reward. Sounds like the guy could use a break.

They would and it would be the WORKERS that would feel the consequences.
It's just not cool man.

But neither is spending 1 buck on lunch and living in poverty.

Social justice logic eh?
I don't think there's moral justification for crime unless it's revenge, and then still, it's a really hard topic and very subjective, and if we will jump on this topic i foresee a shitstorm coming.
I wonder if the guy in the armored car got fired
In all honesty he probably just thought "how am I going to launder 125 thousand dollars, I can't do that, I'll just turn it in and see if I get a reward"
That would've been my thought process anyway
They wouldn't even notice it in their reports if something as small as 125k went missing.
They notice and charge you when you forget to pay a single penny.

Considering the man brought the money back? I'd say just reprimanded.

Yeah but its not like the guy in the armoured car was like "Hey bring the money back" :v: So it wasn't the armoured car guy's decision to return the money why should he get less of a punishment for something the good guy did :v: But yeah
The guys who dropped the money are undoubtedly getting sacked anyhow.
Banks have shitloads of money, that's their job is to make money. No one would suffer from the loss of that money except the people who lost it, who are going to get sacked anyhow. Ultimately this entire thing would come about as "bank loses minuscule sum compared to hourly income, rich CEO doesn't notice until someone tells him, impoverished man gets to live a decent life, workers who dropped bag get fired".
i stand corrected
Considering the man brought the money back? I'd say just reprimanded.
That's not how that works. Most places take action based on the mistake, not on the result. "Well, you lost 125k, but because someone found it your mistake is therefore deserving of less of a reprimand because it worked out this time."
this isnt even the point
On an article about how a poor man returned 125k to a bank, which is only an article on the basis of it not being a common occurrence and counter to what people would expect, the point somehow isn't whether he should or should not have returned the money?

yeah thats true
I read in another article that he got 5000 dollars for bringing it back.
For all we know it was a 200,000 dollar bag of cash when he found it
Hopefully karma will reward this man soon.
Whenever I hear about something like this I think about that episode of Recess where they find a $100 bill and debate whether to spend it or not.
recess was the best
I hope a very rich man goes to him and tells him "You did a good deed, now it's time to give you what you deserve" and just gives him a bag of cash and a place to stay
but you know what? Really good people don't always get that, and that hurts me.

i guess it's protocol for them not to stop for random cars?
