It's sort of funny how Sharlto Copley seems to be a better actor than most of the professionsals, even though District 9 was his first role, and he used to work as a animator before that.
Unlike most people here, I don't mind Matt Damon.
I thought Sharlto was a producer or something? Anyway, he really is a great actor, loved him in the A-Team.
Sounds pretty cool
I seem to remember reading that he used to animate, if not it was something within VFX.
Sharlto (or, rather, his official fan page) posted a video the other week on Facebook for an upcoming film... there was little information. The footage was very D9-like, almost like Cloverfield, in that it was filmed on a handheld camera. It was of two people driving down an isolated road, talking about something they've found, then they get out of the car and film the corpse of a small mutant/alien creature at the side of the road.
I'll try and find it. I'm not entirely sure whether it is related to this title.

Okay. That's weird, it seems the post was removed.
Now that you mention it, I remember seeing it as well. It was Neill Blomkamp and another guy.

Found it. It's being referred to as "AGM Heartland" though so I dunno if it has anything to do with this title. It would be odd for him to be working on two things at once though...

That would be a little odd considering this is supposed to take place in the far future when Humanity is a space-faring civilization.
Oh.

Oops.
I saw the title and immediately thought "Whoa they're making a Megaman Legends movie?!"
I was a bit relieved it wasn't
Will be seeing this, I loved District 9.

I really never understood why people hate Matt Damon, he's a pretty decent actor.
Already cannot wait for this.
Elysium is such a cool name.
Did you know, the Elysium Fields was the "afterlife" that Heros and warriors would go to after they die?
I think that's right...

In Greek mythology, Elysium (Greek: Ἠλύσια πεδία) was a section of the Underworld (the spelling Elysium is a Latinization of the Greek word Ἠλύσιον Elysion). The Elysian Fields, or the Elysian Plains, were the final resting places of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous.
Elysium, Elysian, Elysion...
I've always liked the word Elysion. I think it would make a good name for someone.
Edit:
So I take the it the film isn't really about the Greek term?
The title reminded me about the planet Elysium in the Mass Effect universe.
Is dat sum Jodie Foster?
Oh this is most excellent, District 9 was fantastic.
"is set in the far future on another planet and is filled with many sociopolitical ideas wrapped up inside a Hollywood action film"
I hope it's true sci-fi, instead of that odd pseudo-realism they had going with Avatar.
Elysium always sounds cool
Remember people Neal had a good producer on District 9 (Peter Jackson) lets hope now that he has the freedom to do more creative things he doesn't go the way of George Lucas and shit out The Phantom menace.
Otherwise im looking forward to this, loved District 9.
"is set in the far future on another planet"
Sounds awesome already. :buddy:
I just hope it's not super-soft scifi.

Exactly, except that everything about Avatar was realistic except the Na'vi. All the human tech was realistic, especially the starship.

Related?
Not at all.
"Elysium is a 30 minute science fiction film that I co-wrote and co-directed with my friend Andrew Church. It is currently in post-production."
Sociopolitical
And now I know the plot.
A person from the slums/shittier part of the planet (will probably be called Hades/the Depths/Depth of Hades) will uncover a plot about how a conspiracy in Elysium (the higher echelons of that planet) are planning to demolish the entire slum that is full of the sick, needy and jobless DUE to an overpopulation problem and over consumption of resources.
The movie will delve into themes of:
-What we are worth as humans
-Human compassion
-human malice.
-Possibly how the rich/privileged are all (mostly?) self-serving backstabbing bastards.
The story works just as well with a person from Elysium itself.

The Bourne movies are awesome. Matt Damon is a great actor- and a very intelligent person on top of it. I've seen interviews with him on different political topics etc. Respectable guy at the very least, acting aside.

Wasn't also something like Heaven to ancient Romans? I remember hearing it mentioned in Gladiator.

Nah it's the same thing to the Romans. Basically it's this awesome sunny field where you just talk to other ancient heroes, train, party, and listen to people playing harps.
In fact, Vergil in the Aeneid was the first to describe both Tartarus (Hell) and Elysium (Heaven) and these reasons, amongst others, are why he's considered a Christian Prophet.
Elysium is interchangeable with Heaven.
