• Calling all Red Dwarf fans: New series due in 2012
Ever since Red Dwarf was sort-of-brought-back last year, courtesy of the TV channel Dave, there's been persistent chatters that a full-on series would duly follow. Yet, until now, there's been no official sign of it being commissioned. But that's all changed. Craig Charles let slip the news when chatting on Real Radio's breakfast show earlier this week, when he said that "They've commissioned another series of Red Dwarf. We're going to film at the end of November, December and January." He went on to say that it was only worth doing if it was "as funny as it used to be", arguing that "we've got to recapture the highlights like series 5, series 6, that kind of stuff. If we can hit that mark, then brilliant. There's no point doing it if it's a bit so-so." Robert Llewellyn confirmed the news on his website, revealing that it was a new six-episode run that was coming, and that once again, we've got Dave to thank for it. "The plan at the moment," he revealed, "and this could change, the plan is that we record the new series in front of an audience." You can read his blog post on the matter here. And for now, we're just delighted that the show has earned itself another run.
Source: http://www.denofgeek.com/television/738816/its_official_red_dwarf_to_get_full_new_series_in_2012.html Robert Llewellyn's blog post: http://llewblog.squarespace.com/red-dwarf/ I've loved Red Dwarf ever since I was young, and I'm totally psyched about this. Especially if it's to be shot in front of an audience.
Wont be the same
cgi rape, it just wont seem right
As long as it has the same atmosphere as the other series' did, I totally welcome this. I haven't been a fan of Red Dwarf for very long, but it's a brilliant series.
Fuck yes, but don't make it like their last 3 episode shitty series..
Well, back to earth was pretty good. So long as its the original cast and writers, colour me interested.
To bad we will all be dead.
I loved Red Dwarf, but I think it's time came and passed sadly...
Holy shit yes, i love red dwarf! Back to earth showed me the actors still have it, i can't wait to hear more of rimmers sarcastic remarks :woop:

They're all dead Dave. Everybody's dead Dave. Even the show is dead, Dave. Being force fed the original series from start to end and knowing what happens to shit like this goes down, I already know this is going to be awful. So long as we don't have cheesy sets and corny CGI from the 80's there's no fun in it.
I honestly have a love/hate thing about this. I am sure the writing and such will be fine but like everyone else has mentioned, the cheesy cgi made it fun.
Oh hell yes. I loved Red Dwarf when I was younger, I still own every series on DVD. I'll be looking forward to this. Even if it isn't as good as the last few series, I'll probably still end up liking it, for nostalgia's sake.
Back to Earth felt so wrong. Too many special effects, the ship didn't feel real. It was too clean and overly detailed. Though he did say it might be filmed in front of an audience. That sounds closer to the classic style.
I just hope it's good, I really enjoyed Red Dwarf.
Please don't go overboard on the CGI. Please don't go overboard on the CGI. Please don't go overboard on the CGI. I can't wait. My favourite series was Series 3, had some good moments.
fffffffffUCK YES cautious optimism
Wont be the same
The bad CGI and characters is what made Red Dwarf what it was. I fear that it'll be a Herculean effort to make it feel anything like the original.
I've seen a few of them, they seem pretty funny. It's not going to be the same though.
I will never forget this clip
I hated how they made the ship all sterile and clean for Back to Earth. I liked it better when it looked like it was lived-in, dingy mining vessel. Except the CG did let them show off how absurdly huge the ship is.
YES. YES. I knew paying the TV licence would come to fruition soon enough. I'll have use for it again! The old episodes made it look like a cardboard cupboard (Which it was) than a city-ship. Until they invent cardboard CGI..
Now for the next question, what series number is it?
