Who would have thought that as the end-of-life of Windows XP nears, the operating system would see a surge in its market share rather than a decline? According to latest data from Net Application Windows XP has registered a growth of 0.25 percentage points in January over December market share – something that is not huge, but surprising none the least. Windows XP’s share in December 2013 stood at 28.98 percent and in January it stood at 29.23 percent.
http://www.techienews.co.uk/975688/windows-xp-market-share-increases-wait/
An astronomical 0.25% increase, hold onto your hats
You've really got no excuses if you haven't upgraded to either 7 or 8 considering when 8 was released it costed $20 and that pricetag lasted for a good 3 months And if your computer has shit hardware it's time to upgrade, got no money? There's plenty of solutions available for people with limited budgets Come on guys upgrade
Last minute nostalgia
Keep hanging in their XP! I'm currently half way through rolling out Win7 across our building at work although we will still run XPMode for our accounting software on the basis it would be a 6 figure sum to update it to run on Windows 7.
An astronomical 0.25% increase, hold onto your hats
Skyrocketing!
An astronomical 0.25% increase, hold onto your hats
I'd expected it to decrease by a significant amount instead, so I could see how this is a jump.
I saw a cash register boot up at a local supermarket yesterday and it was showing the fucking Windows XP logo. Sounds super secure for something that is supposed to handle money. :v:

Heh, just yesterday my sister got me to format a laptop from XP to 7.
I dunno why you'd want to keep using XP for anything
all with bonzibuddy

So I'm not gonna be surprised if windows XP is gonna be used for quite some time even after Microsoft stops with official updates & support. Companies dependant on computers for even critical parts have been hoarding Windows 7 licenses for quite some time for that exact reason. And judging the price development of a standard windows 7 retail package on online sites shows a rapid increase in price. Microsofts only hope for getting companies to adopt Windows 8 is to reintroduce the "classic shell" mode.
All the computers in my school run on XP.
All the computers in my school run on XP.
Pretty much every computer in my entire town runs XP Except the cash registers Which run MS-DOS or something

There's still many businesses which use windows 2000..
Pretty much every computer in my entire town runs XP Except the cash registers Which run MS-DOS or something
Most registers now run either XP or W7 embedded
There's still many businesses which use windows 2000..
Probably some legacy application, I doubt they use it as their main OS.
I was just at the doctor's office yesterday. The machine said "Built for Windows 7". The screen had Windows XP on it. They installed XP over 7. I was sure I was going to die in that office that day. [sp] I do understand that some software has compatability issues, it was a joke [/sp]
I can't say I'm surprised, when you think about it there are not that many differences between XP and 8 that matter to a business or casual user aside from the slightly better performance and security, XP is going to remain for a long time.
And if your computer has shit hardware it's time to upgrade, got no money? There's plenty of solutions available for people with limited budgets
If you have a single machine then sure it's easy to upgrade on a budget but the main users are businesses where they may have upwards of 100 or even 1000 machines, Microsoft dropping support for XP while financially a good move is rather costly to many businesses should they want to upgrade, at least on the upside it will lead to increasing uptake of Linux.
The screen had Windows XP on it. They installed XP over 7.
Not at all unusual, quite a few software programs will not run on 7.

Sometimes there's minor compatibility issues with newer versions of the OS that nobody wants to deal with (even though most are managable through Windows Compatibility Toolkit) so they just force users to use an older OS. It's an issue of money and possible system downtime. That's all there is to it.
How do they record this on a monthly basis?
My old high school had computers with the Windows 7 sticker on them but with Windows XP installed.
Every computer at my work is on XP; dear lord.

Are they all designed to break if the planets aren't aligned perfectly? I guess that's job security :v:. But still.

many businesses don't want to upgrade because it'll cost them $10 to do so and that's way too much for them to afford.

I'd install XP just for 3D Pinball. Otherwise it's time to let it die peacefully.
