So I just got Windows 7 (64-bit) on my PC, and I wanted to add some RAM.
I was just wondering, is it safe to add more RAM that fits, and is the same brand, but not the same model?
It's safe, but it'll be extremely hit or miss whether or not it will work. I strongly advise getting the exact same model, or simply removing the old stuff and upgrading completely.
Same clocks and same timings though, you may be fine. I'd ask on the manufacturer's forums.
Just make sure it's compatible and you'll be dandy
Thanks. Will do.

No, you can shove any old stick of RAM in as long as it's the same type (ie. DDR2 and DDR2)
The faster RAM will automagically slow down to match

Not always.
My old PC ran DDR and the two 1 gig sticks would not run with the 256 sticks in the computer.

Not all RAM magically runs stable at every clock speed and timing setting. Especially since, as far as I know, you can't tweak voltage individually between DIMMs.

Well, if he's not overclocking or modifying the RAM settings in the BIOS, they should run fine. I know mixing SDRAM sticks work perfectly. :haw:
