Ok I am building a pc for someone and he wants the best damn pc you can get for £600, here is a coupel of the critirea he wants it to meet:
Quad Core better than the first gen phenom's
4gb RAM
Dual graphics cards crossfire/sli
250gb hardrive is ok (though I found a good deal on a 500gb)
He wants it to play all the current games at the best you can for that budget at the 1920x1080 res
Also vista(preferably with the windows 7 upgrade voucher)
We are going to be buying the PC next month when he gets his money. So all I need is the tower. He is also not fussed with teh case so it can just be plain black for all he cares he doesnt care if its something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134798 (yes I know hurf durf 20£ case :350:)
I have a list and I will post it here in a mo

Anyone?
Don't waste your money on SLI/Crossfire, it's not worth the price you pay when you consider with the money you use to buy an SLI mobo and the two graphics cards, you could just get a really good graphics card, especially when the 5000 series comes out next month.
I recently buillt a PC for £600 without an OS, to give you a guideline, I got an AMD 955, 4gb of 1066mhz RAM, gigabyte AM2+ mobo, XFX 4870 1gb XXX edition, 550W Corsair, Antec 900, LG DVD drive.
Personally based on what you have there, I would drop the two 4850s and get the 4870 as dual video cards are pointless unless you're right at the top end and use the money to get a 4870 1gb and possibly a better case, as it isnt all about looks, but something like the antec 900 will give you very good cooling.
K I did think that about a dual card solution, I will talk to him and tell him about that, As we are ordering it next month I think we shall wait for the new cards and hopefully prices shall go down,

Well can anyone else come up with a list that can match that performance wise and meets the standards for that price?

If that's too far over budget just say.
Change motherboard to either of these, second one if you think you NEED Crossfire/SLi

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/170247
Use this as a temporary GPU until 58xx series comes out.

CPU Upgrade.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172684
Gives you guys just over £100 for a 58xx series card.
[editline]12:16PM[/editline]
With the non-Crossfire/SLi mobo that is.
I hope you have money leftover if you will get the 5xxx series.
5870 costs $300.
Don't bother with SLi and Xfire. Put all the money into a very good graphics card and then add one later when the price has come down and you need the extra performance.

also for some reason in my basket that comes to £676 with VAT  Might need to redo that list, I thought that was too good to be that price
[editline]01:05PM[/editline]
Would it be better to go with a AM2+/DDR2 rig rather than a AM3/DDR3 rig as I remember being told that ddr3 isn't worth it yet
Where do you get the crossfire bridge/cable from? Does it come with the graphics card? (xfx 4850) or the motherboard? (asrock 770)
[editline]04:04PM[/editline]
as the asrock motherboard has a crossfire switcher card rather than a cable?
It comes with the card. Don't bother crossfiring though. You really don't need it unless you are running at 2560x1800 or some shit.
O shi- I thought I edited out the GTX 275 to a 4870?
Well do that and see what you get. If you want lower then you can find a DDR2 mobo.
I have changed it to a 4870 Crossfire set up as that is just 20£ more and that will get him set for many years.

Thanks for help :buddy:
Is that PSU 600w OK for a 4870 crossfire? its just running one sata dvd one sata hdd and 2 gpu's and all the motherboard stuff
Is that PSU 600w OK for a 4870 crossfire? its just running one sata dvd one sata hdd and 2 gpu's and all the motherboard stuff
Yes, it's fine.
Ok that PSU has:
1 x 20+4Pin ATX
1 x 4-pin/8-pin CPU
(supports double CPUs/supplies stable voltage)
2 x PCI-E
6 x 4-pin peripheral
2 x 4-pin floppy
3 x S-ATA
and for the graphics cards I am going to need to use these aswell as the pcie connectors:

now that uses up all 4 molex but however the case fans require one molex to power them what should I do as I would have run out of moelx, or can the floppy molex be used aswell??
e'll give me 70£ for building it for him
ouch.. Building a PC is easy, and only takes a couple hours max if you know what you're doing.
Be a good friend and tell him to put the £70 toward his new PC ;-)
I didnt choose the price he said thats what he'll pay I did say 50 as 5£ per part but he went for 70£, he doesnt know much about computers and wouldnt be able to build one himself (his last pc he threw out of the 2nd floor window), and its my best friends brother and he wasnt the best of brother towards my friend.
I know its easy I have put together a couple of other pc's before just never put in a new CPU before
