I was thinking to get a GTX 970 since it is the best bang for buck, however it say it runs on PCI express 16x 3.0, and my motherboard has 16x 2.0, i wanted to know if it can still runs on it and if it works, will the bere a performance lost? Also, my CPU is a I5 2500k, will it bottleneck? Thanks
"Bottlenecking" is a term that is used too frequently at the moment - unless you're running quite an old or slow chip (of which the 2500k is not) then there should be no noticeable bottlenecking at all.
Alright thanks, what about if i overclock the gpu? Would that change anything?
Off course but i mean if the rest of the hardware will still support it, im going for 970 G1 and it can be overclocked a lot apparently.
I have 750w and i know its plenty. Thanks, ordering it.
just pointing out even if you had a compatible motherboard the 2500k only supports pci express 2
Even of its cpu bottlenecked it doesnt really matter. Having a good gpu would still allow you put the graphics higher without any fps loss. setting it on low would net you the same fps tough. Planetside 2 is a good example of This.
I use Strix GTX 970. If I set the GPU fan to spin at 40% all the time (it wouldnt spin if tempt <60 degrees celcius), would it be hazardous in long term? The fan might get damaged or something?
Naah it shouldn't be an issue. The only reason it stops in the first place is to keep the noise levels down.
Except give you more frames in which games can actually use it.
that card should destroy in every game anyways, doubt you'd need to. 770 can handle a ton, 970 should be solid.
without fans on my 970 is at 33c. you don't need to have the fans on. maxwell runs remarkably cool
Got my card a few days ago, even overclocked it didnt go over 60c even on rough benchmark, my 560 ti used to run at over 90-100c for years at 100% fans.
I also have a Strix 970. Can confirm that the stock fan profile is actually REALLY good. It's not even worth touching even when overclocked.
'im running a EVGA FTW edition, which is heavily OC'd. still idle at 33c, at the moment.
What is the safe long term temperature? Below 60 degrees celcius?
What is the safe long term temperature? Below 60 degrees celcius?
below 80c. graphics cards are much better at taking temperatures than CPUs are. but like i said, your 970 will never break 80c, fans will kick in and keep it around 70c, even on the most demanding games. my old 570 ran around 85c for a long, long time at load, still runs fine.
