• My fascination with turntablism

Alright FP, I guess I'll start by explaining how I got so interested in this genre. I have been a huge fan of underground hip hop and rap as well as pretty much anything but country, screamo and that emo sounding fag shit for many years. Well, I was listening to a very old album by Atmosphere one day and decided to give a listen to some of the tracks I had neglected for various reasons. Well, about halfway through I stumbled on a track named "@" which I had been ignoring for years because it was basically what I ignorantly referred to as beats, but this track had impressed me enough to look into it and that's how the wonderful world of turntablism and I were introduced. I began to discover amazing turntablists such as The Executioners, Qbert, and my current inspirations C2C. It didn't take long for me to realize that I wanted to be able to do this some day, so I went out to Best Buy and bought my first phonograph (More correct word for turntable) which was a Numark TTUSB. I was aware at the time that I was going to need another table and a mixer at some point but I figured I would take small steps because after all, it's not the cheapest equipment. After playing around with it making irritating, ear damaging noises with my parent's old records I decided to ask my mom for a mixer for christmas. (Mixers in turntablism are primarily used to cut out unwated sound) Well, my mom being the amazing, supportive parent she is bought me two brand new Stanton T92 tables and a brand new Stanton SA.3 Mixer, all very high quality equipment. Needless to say I was very appreciative, and now I have everything and more than I needed and have been practicing and getting pretty good. I have a concern though, everyone I try talking to about this hobby of mine treats it as if there's nothing to it, like anybody can get behind a pair of tables and make good sounding music, and I think they are a little uninformed about what it actually takes to do this. Now that I think about it, I have a second concern people tell me this music is garbage, which is fine, It's just an opinion after all, but most people don't bash other peoples taste in music even if it's they're least favorite genre. For example I have friends who listen to country, but I don't say this is shit and turn the radio off or anything, so what's your take on this, FP? Also, some music to listen to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4_Ue2lrwTQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXBWf4Vbv04
Screw the haters, get good, go on massive tours then laugh at them afterwards
Screw the haters, get good, go on massive tours then laugh at them afterwards
Thanks man, I'm not planning on stopping for anything, I'm just confused as to why it's not as respected as other genres.
Turntablism is really cool. Dj's can make a lot of monety too, no?
I love turntablism. Yoda and A-Trak are favourites of mine.
You've gained about 1000 cool points for this
