After noticing my performance was shit in a game I realized I hadn't updated my drivers for a while and decided to do so. I've tried installing them through both the AMD Desktop app and downloading them from the website but so far both have led to freezes either early or late into the install/uninstall. To get it working I've tried disabling antivirus, attempted (and failed) to uninstall the drivers, even roll my system back four days but whatever happens it just freezes at some point; not flicker on and off like it's meant to but just black screen and turn back on to a frozen display.
Can anyone help?

I just noticed that it may have crashed each time (I'm gonna say a total of four or five times now) when it got to that ad too.
I think the ads are downloaded from the internet, would be really retarded if it worked, but try disabling the firewall? Otherwise, try this: [url]http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html[/url]
Doubt you're gonna see much improved performance in a game with a driver, though, unless the game is new (and your card isn't legacy).

I already tried disabling Windows Defender, anything I may of missed? Also I'll try that program, thanks.
[editline]9th May 2016[/editline]
Also it is a new game (Dark Souls 3) and I don't know what a legacy card is but it's a 290X.
[editline]9th May 2016[/editline]
Well, started up DDU and went to the kitchen for a moment only to come back to the:
":(
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart" screen. It seems to be stuck on 0%. What do I do now?

Windows Defender isn't the same as the firewall. Just search for "firewall" in the start menu and disable it. Remember to re-enable it afterwards. The 290X isn't a legacy card, so it doesn't matter. Legacy basically means it's on live support driver wise.
Can you reboot the computer? If you can't, we'll take it from there.

Run it from safe mode.
Yep, always use DDU in safe mode
Alright, another update. I rebooted after the first problem screen, and my resolution was only 1024 so I figured DDU actually worked. Started up the Driver installer again and like clockwork, it froze up on 12%, whilst I had Windows Defender AND the Firewall disabled. Rebooted again, ran DDU [I]in safe mode[/I], finished and when it got to [I]scanning for device...[/I], I got the :( Restart screen again. So now I'm exactly where I was before except I'm stuck with a tiny ass resolution. Should I try installing drivers again?

Try an older driver version.
Alright, going to download 16.3 and try that. Where can I get even older builds?
[editline]9th May 2016[/editline]
Downloaded 16.3 and started the install. Again, froze up at 12%. Left it for a good 15 minutes just incase before I rebooted it with the power button, still no luck.
[editline]9th May 2016[/editline]
I feel like having Windows 10 is probably an issue here too.
[editline]9th May 2016[/editline]
Tried the minimal set up. Froze again but this time on a black screen with a cursor. Progress?

I've had no trouble installing AMD drivers on windows 10, and I even go for the beta drivers for my 7850 HD.

Guess my reputation of having issues is just holding up then.
[editline]10th May 2016[/editline]
Tried an old catalyst build, still froze. I really don't know what else to try.
[editline]10th May 2016[/editline]
Is there anything I should try deleting? amdkmpfd or something?
[editline]10th May 2016[/editline]
Downloaded the AMD cleanup utility since I hadn't tried it yet, clicked it once it was finished in the download bar and I got the :( crash.
What the fuck even.
[editline]10th May 2016[/editline]
Is there anything else I should try? The only thing I can think of is reinstalling windows.
What GPU do you have?

I'm running the 16.4.2 Beta with no problems (Upgrading to 16.5.1 today).
I haven't had any issues with 16.3. My computer is also has been upgraded from Windows 8.1.
This definitely sounds like a Windows 10 issue.
It could be either something running in the background, or Windows being itself.
Have you had the latest Windows 10 updates? Because there was a build change not so long ago.
The only other thing I can think of is another driver causing the issue or the .Net framework.
I would recommend using DDU in safe mode(run it twice if it crashes), and then booting normally and letting Windows Update install the driver.
Alright this has to be a cruel joke or something now because this has gotten to be beyond believable. I did a complete system wipe so I have literally nothing. Downloaded the reccomended drivers, went to install and the cunt froze when it got to AMD Display Driver.
What the honest fuck?
Will do
[QUOTE=Luxuria;50312562]Will do[/QUOTE]
How much time are you giving it when it freezes? I have a 290, mine usually freezes as well when installing new drivers - for about ten minutes, then it continues.
Whelp looks like things have gone from slightly better to incredibly worse. I used Windows Update which seemed to fix everything. Needed to reboot so I did so, came back to my pc to find it was frozen on what I assume was the boot screen. Rebooted using the power button and all that happens now is it boots into a black screen with a flashing white text prompt. All I can do now is get into my Bios.
I'm stressing so hard over this shit I'll pay someone money just to help me, I'm out of ideas.
[editline]14th May 2016[/editline]
I was so close to having everything fixed too.
I don't think the GPU is the issue anymore, I can't even do anything beyond open the Bios.
[editline]14th May 2016[/editline]
Before I rebooted after that Windows Update everything was working.
Worst comes to worst, assuming the issue isn't some awful hardware thing (which if doesn't sound like if is), if you can get a flash drive or disk with a Windows 10 recovery image you can repair/reinstall everything. I don't have the link, but I know it's free. I had a similar problem with a different PC that couldn't make it past the BIOS a few months ago.
How would I go about that?
Simply put, you use this Microsoft program to set up a flash drive or disk, then you plug it into your computer and boot (off the disk/drive, not however you'd normally do it). It's the nuclear option for when a Windows installation is too fucked to boot on its own. Let me try to find guide for you.
Much appreciated man.
I'm in a car right now and have shit connection, but I think this guide is the right one.

[editline]ttttt[/editline]
A lot of these guides mention backing up files assuming you can still access them. This process will still work if your installation is too broken to do that, the whole point is that you're practically reinstalling Windows off the drive.

This could be the way to go too. I honestly don't remember how far the recovery drive goes, it may be necessary to just use this to reinstall windows 10. Like I said, it's been a few months since I've had to do this. Point is, don't panic, the only way to brick your computer with a software issue is to fuck up your BIOS (at least as far as I know), anything else can be fixed, one way or another.
I already did a complete wipe and reinstall today so backing things up doesn't matter anymore, thanks.
Use this program to make a Bootable Windows USB [url]http://www.isotousb.com/[/url]
Make sure the check the "Bootable" box.
I have an old ass card (ATi V5600) and am using it on Windows 10. The drivers that Windows installed by default worked just fine. I only ran into problems when I installed ATi Catalyst and updated drivers.
IMO I would re-install Windows, then just let Windows update grab the right drivers for you. If you want to try and test old driver versions you could also do that, you just will risk running into the same issues.
FYI, when I did get the Catalyst drivers working for mine, it was like version 8 or something like that.
One thing, I don't have another computer with Windows 10, only a laptop with Windows 7. Will this be an issue?
What did you use to install Windows 10 on your current computer?
[QUOTE=ghostofme;50313327]What did you use to install Windows 10 on your current computer?[/QUOTE]
I was offered the upgrade automatically .
