I thought they were kidding, but oh, wow! AC assassins DO reproduce by mythosis! I guess they took really good lessons from Frozen's animation team.
Why is this a controversy? This is making an issue out of nothing just to cause a problem.
lol fuck off. No one is entitled to put females in their game as much as they aren't entitled to put men in their game. Why is this "debate" even a thing. Also. Its a fucking videogame.
Why is this a controversy? This is making an issue out of nothing just to cause a problem.
Well they released a game with a female protagonist, which means they are not even trying to include one female character even after having done one in the past.
Its a fucking videogame.
That's a really idiotic argument.
Why is this a controversy? This is making an issue out of nothing just to cause a problem.
And that mentality is exactly the problem! Some suits probably say the same thing at those studios. "Oh why do you need to include women? Why do you need to spend 100 man hours getting those female animation rigs done and hire another voice actor? It's not like it matters to the gamers!". And that's what we're trying to change. That it does matter. That we do want female gamers to be able to relate better to these games in general. We're not going to sue Ubisoft, force them to change their game or burn their studio down for this, we just want them to give the choice of a female character more serious consideration in their future titles.
If you do not have an important woman in your story you are automatically a misogynist
That's a really idiotic argument.
It's really not though. Videogames aren't supposed to be taken as seriously as they are here. The idiotic argument is how you cant have 4 assassins that are male without starting a debate about "oh there should be a girl assassin in there just because". Ofcourse knowing you, you're not going to take anything I say about this topic seriously so I'll just drop my point of view here.

But even then, it can't be "just because" because the game is about the French Revolution... and one of the most decisive assassinations of the French Revolution was done by a woman!
Ofcourse knowing you, you're not going to take anything I say about this topic seriously so I'll just drop my point of view here.

And that's what we're trying to change. Mature adults notice when they've done something dumb and strive to stop doing it, especially when it requires basically no effort on their part. This isn't censorship, and it doesn't mean that other controversial issues aren't being tackled. In fact, it means the opposite of this when there's a healthy, free exchange of ideas and beliefs. If sexism wasn't an issue in storytelling in movies and games, we wouldn't be seeing videos questioning why the majority of high-budget films star all male casts. What's inherently masculine about robbing banks, driving fast sports cars, killing, wearing hockey masks, or shooting guns? Aside from what society's shaped us to believe, nothing. Instead of having this terrible defeatist attitude, ask questions. When you play a game or watch a movie with yet another white male with stubble that kills tons of dudes ask, "why can't this character be a woman? a black dude? an old man? a hispanic lady?" Chances are (in a lot of generic garbage that comes out) the role could easily fit somebody else, but the creators are either too incompetent and/or lazy to consider that or b) when people bring up the fact that, maybe, hey, this could be different, they get told (by people like you) "but this isn't important!". Society, media, and video games by extension aren't going to just change on their own, people have to manifest themselves on every level of production.
Honestly this controversy feels extremely manufactured for places like this to get clicks. Yeah it's unfortunate theres no playable females in a game thats probably gonna be really bad but it's nothing to go absolutely batshit insane about.
Why is this a controversy? This is making an issue out of nothing just to cause a problem.
Imagine if every fighter in the Smash Bros 4 roster was Fox McCloud with slight variations, and Sora/Namco-Bandai/Nintendo were making up silly excuses to explain why won't they put Peach, Kirby or Pikachu in the game. I feel that's what happening here more or less, except instead of Fox it's your typical ~edgy~, scruffy badass multiplied by four, and the excuse they use is even more stupid and senseless (and sexist).
If you do not have an important woman in your story you are automatically a misogynist
it's kind of dumb for this game about the french revolution to not have a female assassin in it because of charlotte corday, whose assassination of jean-paul marat was kind of important
why make a huge fuss over something like this
why make a huge fuss over something like this

“It’s double the animations, it’s double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets. Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work. Because of that, the common denominator was Arno. It’s not like we could cut our main character, so the only logical option, the only option we had, was to cut the female avatar.”
Basically they're saying "ugh too much work" when really, it isn't. The fans have been crying out for a playable female character yet Ubisoft keeps rolling the man train.
Let me get this straight. If your reply is:
Why should we care

Why is this a problem

Oh you're calling them all misogynists?

Don't take games so serious
then just get out, you're terrible at arguments.
When you play a game or watch a movie with yet another white male with stubble that kills tons of dudes ask, "why can't this character be a woman? a black dude? an old man? a hispanic lady?" The only safe route is to make everything white males, but then you get the argument you just made. It really is a lose lose. No matter what is done someone will bitch about something. That being said I would enjoy more playable females in games, though I don't believe developers should be required to add them, just like I wouldn't mind an all female cast with no requirement to add males.
That being said I would enjoy more playable females in games, though I don't believe developers should be required to add them, just like I wouldn't mind an all female cast with no requirement to add males.
We're not saying they should be required. People are saying we just want to see them more. That co-op was an ideal chance for this. And that production costs are a bullshit excuse.
Thing is if you portray a killer, bank robber,or anything illegal as a black man or hispanic lady you are going to get flack for racism or sexism.
i don't think anyone would have a problem if you had a black character as a criminal, for example, as long as there were positive portrayals of other black characters in the game
The issue with people wanting women in Unity is they say "They made 4 male characters and no female character to play." When the reality is probably closer to, they made 1 male character and added pallet swapped copies of him for coop. Of course their excuse of "But it takes more time for animations!" is bullshit. As I said in the SH thread they already had female assassins as NPCs and playable characters, in Liberation and in the multiplayer.
They're really trying to think of the worst excuses.
if you can't make female player character animations, just use a really manly woman and say "she represents the strong woman" just to appease the feminazis
i don't think anyone would have a problem if you had a black character as a criminal, for example, as long as there were positive portrayals of other black characters in the game
The Walking Dead season 1 did this (lee is a criminal after all) and no one cried racism
if you can't make female player character animations, just use a really manly woman and say "she represents the strong woman" just to appease the feminazis
anyone who uses the word "feminazi" unironically is an asshole
The Walking Dead season 1 did this (lee is a criminal after all) and no one cried racism
it's like telltale actually handled it properly or something!
The Walking Dead season 1 did this (lee is a criminal after all) and no one cried racism
it's all about how you present the character, though we see lee not as some stereotypical afro-american gangster hoodlum, but as a realistic human being with emotions and obviously filled with regret, which is the case of most people in real life, no matter the ethnicity
While I understand that this sort of thing is viewed as a problem in the industry, I do think there's been a stupidly large overreaction here, people are making it seem like there's no females in any of their games (including this one) when there clearly are.
We're not saying they should be required. People are saying we just want to see them more. That co-op was an ideal chance for this.
But that is what is happening here, better add females or you are going to start a controversy Thats practically making it a requirement.
No it doesn't? The controversy is because they fanned the flames with lame excuses, which several industry professionals called them out on.
