Gay couple arrested for kissing outside Mormon church
A gay couple was arrested in Salt Lake City on Thursday after kissing outside a Mormon church and refusing to leave when security guards told them to do so:
Matt Aune said he and his partner, Derek Jones, were walking home from a concert nearby on Thursday night, cutting through the plaza near the Salt Lake City Mormon temple.
Aune, 28, said he gave Jones, 25, a hug and kiss and that the two were then approached by a security guard, who asked them to leave, telling them they were being inappropriate and that public displays of affection aren’t allowed on the property. He said other guards arrived and the men were handcuffed.
“We asked what we were doing wrong,“ Aune told The Associated Press.
Church spokeswoman Kim Farah said in a statement Friday that the men were “politely asked to stop engaging in inappropriate behavior—just as any other couple would have been.“
The couple claims they were targeted for their sexual orientation. And, of course, the AP mentioned at the end of this short story that the Mormon Church had been criticized and protested for the support its members lent to Proposition 8. But, as a punk kid who used to ride BMX all over San Diego, I know personally that there are plenty of legitimate reasons for which you can be kicked off private property.
There was also someone on the news website, claiming to have seen the incident.
How funny that these guys try to claim that they were victims. I witnessed the whole thing. First of all, these two gentlemen did much more then hold hands and kiss, they were completely all over each other. Second of all they were given ample opportunities to leave, these security guards told them politely they could stay on this easement as long as they weren’t all over each other. The two men turned things around quickly, they were drunk and completely obnoxious and rude to the security guards, cussing at them and calling them all sorts of names. That’s when they arrested them for trespassing not kissing. Funny how these two “victims” claim to be victimized, when in reality they were just picking a fight, and wanted some attention which they got.

About 100 people gathered near the Mormon church's downtown temple to stage a "kiss-in" protesting the treatment of 2 gay men who were detained by security guards on a plaza owned by the church and later cited by police for trespassing.
Matt Aune said he and his partner, Derek Jones, were confronted by guards after they hugged and kissed on the plaza.
Former Salt Lake City Councilwoman Deeda Seed helped organize Sunday's kiss-in, which occurred on public property.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported on its Web site that heterosexual and gay couples exchanged small kisses and pecks at the plaza's south entrance, which faces downtown. Church security was present, but the Deseret News of Salt Lake City reported on its Web site that no altercations occurred.
That's fucking disgusting.
I love how the security guards/cops got all over these guys for a simple protest.

None of the sources I've seen mention "getting all over each other."
I'm guessing the commenter is just some random homophobe.
One of those things, gay people will be offended but since being gay is against the church then it doesn't surprise me that this happenned.
Hah, there was a "kiss-in" held to protest this:

Would they do that to a straight couple? I doubt it.
Inb4 homophobia.

These church guys are faggots.
Like, not even kidding, they are huge faggots.
I was going to say it's private property but churches are tax-exempt so fuck them in the ass, the gay couple was in the right.

this guy is the guy who made the Homoerotic childhood thread, rate him gaybow <3
And, how are the police allowed to arrest people just for kissing? all religion is stupid, this is yet another example of it.

Whoa whoa slow down there, they were saving that for later.
I don't care what you think, when you go onto religious grounds to hold a protest and kiss as gays, that is going over the line.

They weren't standing just on the grounds. they were in the plaza which leads to the fucking entrance as displayed in this image above. I am not homophobic in any way but that was just a dick move on their part. They wanted to start a fight and they were fairly warned.

It's private property therefor security guards call it.

Good observation there, junior! :downsbravo:
Anyways, this is stupid. They weren't, like JohnnyMo said, in the wrong at all.

Not really.
Being extreme is usually the best way to be heard.

It not that they were just kissing. The security guards were upset over them kissing on their property so they called the cops and claimed they were trespassing.

give me 7 cases when religion has done nothing but good, so far, religion has killed more people than anything ever, it has done this, and is the cause for almost all idiocy ever.
How do religious people know their deity dislikes homosexuality anyway?

It's sort of a holy thing for man and woman to be together believe it or not.

Why can't it be holy, maybe less, for a man to be with a man, or a woman to be with a woman? They adopt children that else would life miserable lives in some crappy building with potatoes for dinner.
