Just reformatted my computer, installed drivers, currently on Windows 7 Home Premium and I just noticed every time I start up a game, I get black bars at the side of the screen, most likely because it is not at native resolution.. Anyone know a fix to this?
Tried googling it, couldn't really find a real fix to it.
This only happens when I play games out of my non-native resolution.
Normally its at 1920x1080 resolution but to get a better FPS in games I need to reduce the resolution.
Ideally I would play at 1028x768. Anyone got any ideas?
Edit: The black bars appear when I lower the resolution on my desktop too. Found this, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/85d77ff8-738a-4e1d-aff2-f837894d6194/
It tells me to do some things in Catalyst control center, although I can't find it in my version of CCC. Oh yes, forgot to mention I use a ATI Radeon HD 5670
Seeing as I don't know which version of Catalyst you have, do this:
1. Download Driver Sweeper, and uninstall all ATi drivers with it.
2. Download the newest drivers from AMD's website, install them.
After this is done, open up Catalyst Control Center, go to "My Digital Flat Panels" then "Scaling options".
Set "Underscan" to 0%.

Going to go test it out tomorrow, will check if it works. I system restored a bit ago so there is no drivers installed right now.
Anyway, trying to find it. Don't see Digital Flat Panels or Underscan anywhere on there.
EDIT: Fixed it! Thanks RixxzIV. All I had to do was set my resolution to the lowest setting possible through windows normally, then I went to scaling options like you said, clicked on fullscreen, went back to normal windows to change my resolution it and it fixed it. All my games no longer have black borders. Thanks again.
You prefer the stretching? That's gross. Anyways, I suggest that you just use the smallest 16:9 resolution available so it doesn't stretch, such as 1366 x 768.

Yeah, just doesn't feel right playing a game that doesn't take up the entire screen. Besides its not like I set it extremely low to something like 1028x768 or anything. Only problem is with games like Bad Company 2 that I will get extremely low FPS if I go with the 1920x1080 resolution.
If you're getting bad fps it's time to upgrade imo.
