Additionally, it has two mini-display ports and HDMI out, so MSI is really counting on the Titan never leaving your desk. Luckily it has the specs to allow for pretty serious gaming, as it's loaded with things like an intel Core i7 processor, dual NVIDIA Geforce graphics cards (GTX980), and at least 16GB of RAM. All of that is covered by an easily removable plate above the keyboard which allows for easy access to all the internals. But it's that keyboard that really separates the Titan from its competitors. The full Cherry MX Brown mechanical keyboard is backlit by red LEDs, and provides an instant and lasting burst of nostalgia upon using it. Quieter than Cherry's MX Red keys, the MX Brown series still registers extremely satisfying clicks that make it hard to return to the chiclet keys of a laptop. Cherry has been making mechanical keyboards for almost 50 years, and the pedigree really shows. Next to the keyboard is a built-in two-button trackpad that, with a tap in the top left, turns into a haptic-enabled number pad that's also backed by red LEDs. It’s not the same as having a mechanical number pad — if anything, juxtaposing it next to the mechanical keyboard means you’re constantly served with a harsh reminder of how far haptic feedback still has to go — but the effect is cool. Because a laptop with glowing mechanical keys isn't flashy enough, MSI is also including a special set of shiny, gold-colored metal "WASD" keys. It's a nice touch of fan service for the small group of people that have been looking for an option like this for years. None of this will come cheap, though, because the Titan starts at $3,299. If that price is too steep, you might be better off scouring the IBM model M resale market.
http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/7495073/msi-mechanical-keyboard-gt80-titan-laptop-ces
It kind of looks like someone just ripped out the regular membrane keyboard and sort of just hot glued in a mechanical keyboard in place of where the membrane keyboard used to be. I think the keys should maybe be abit more low profile like this cherry mechanical keyboard
What's wrong with the numpad?
What's wrong with the numpad?
it doubles as a trackpad, I think [editline]5th January 2015[/editline] laptop keyboards are so awful membrane is also pretty terrible so this is a pretty damn nice thing to finally see
That looks so ugly it isn't even funny
That space above the keyboard looks like a neat place to hold drinks. Apart from that I don't get the design at all
intel Core i7 processor, dual NVIDIA Geforce graphics cards (GTX980), and at least 16GB of RAM
You can build the same rig for less.
If I were to refund the cost of my 4 year old laptop and my new desktop PC, I would still be around $500 short to buy this.
That space above the keyboard looks like a neat place to hold drinks. Apart from that I don't get the design at all
Probably a good place to make coffee seeing how hot that thing is going to get.
You can build the same rig for less.
In a laptop? No I can't.
I actually know a few people who have both the money and want for something like this, or as one of them put it, "a portable desktop".
In a laptop? No I can't.
I think he meant a desktop one. Someone should check to see if you can get the same specs but cheaper.
I think he meant a desktop one. Someone should check to see if you can get the same specs but cheaper.
Take any laptop, you can build same spec desktop for cheaper. It's common sense.
You can build the same rig for less.
It's almost like you pay more for a smaller, more portable package.
What's wrong with the numpad?
It's a touchpad, and a numpad, combined into one. How that would work properly confuses me.
You can build the same rig for less.
[t]http://i2.wp.com/www.alexstjohn.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/man-carrying-a-desktop-computer-around-his-shoulders-as-if-it-is-a-mobile-device.jpg[/t] yes that's completely practical for travel.
Take any laptop, you can build same spec desktop for cheaper. It's common sense.
of course, prebuilds are pretty much a scam sadly, you can only really get prebuilt laptops and that's terrible
Gaming laptops are a blast while the hardware is up to date but they're heavy and expensive and you can't upgrade them. Only reason I can see for having one is if you move between two desks frequently and play a lot of games.
Off-center laptop keyboards drive me nuts.
If the laptop was meant to be used fairly stationary anyway, wouldn't you use an external keyboard anyway? Also, why the weird design? Shouldn't the keyboard be at the top?
Well it DOES have a dragon on it. I think that alone justifies the price.
Whoever designed that front should be fired
Hold the fucking rice please! Gimmie this with modern guts.
My PS4 is sitting on top of one right now.
Whoever designed that front should be fired
Visually it looks awful but it makes sense. The keyboard on that laptop is about same distance from screen as my keyboard from monitor. I feel uncomfortable using most laptops because their keyboards are too close to screen imo.
The design is akin to these kinds of shirts:

That laptop's a bit to over the top for me, but I have a MSI GE60 laptop with Windows 7 and I love it. MSI knows what they're doing, and I think you get more for the price than with Alienware and other "gaming laptops." Also, I've never ever had a problem with overheating. Keyboard is always cool to the touch. Love MSI.
The numpad that doubles as a trackpad is a very good idea, saves space on the front of the laptop and gives that area more of a purpose. Technically much more ergonomic.

Think I could find a bunch of other things to spend a zillion dollars on first though.
You are forgetting that Lenovo absolutely ruined the ThinkPad, its nothing like what it used to be.
i've got to be honest though, the lenovo thinkpad keyboards are really, really nice compared to other laptops.
