THE NSW Labor government has been rocked by yet another scandal, with Transport Minister David Campbell quitting last night following revelations he attended a gay sex club.
Mr Campbell, who is married with two adult sons, was caught on camera by the Seven Network on Tuesday evening, leaving Ken's of Kensington, in eastern Sydney.
He was shown driving away from the bath-house in his official car.
Last night Mr Campbell, whose wife has been battling cancer, said in a statement: "I apologise to my wife, family, colleagues, staff and the community for letting them down.
"This will be a very difficult time for my family and friends and I ask for their privacy to be respected."
As stunned MPs congregated in the corridors and bar of the NSW parliament last night, there was considerable anger at the media's treatment of what many considered a private matter.
"He's done nothing wrong," one senior Labor figure told The Australian.
Several MPs testified that, even in the snake pit that is NSW politics, they had not heard rumours about Mr Campbell's sexuality.
There is no serious suggestion Mr Campbell breached official guidelines by driving himself to Ken's in his ministerial car.
So essentially, a news network here in Australia (Channel 7) decided they'd videotape this minister entering a gay club and making it the headline. However, he hasn't done anything wrong. He didn't use tax payer money to enter to club or anything. Because of this, he has resigned and now doesn't really face a future in politics. Their excuse is the fact he used a taxpayer funded car to drive there (but that's not a crime anyways)
Personally I think it's disgusting. He wasn't a catholic minister being hypocritical or anything, just an ordinary person. The news team are essentialy promoting the idea that it's a scandal to be gay.
Scandals are usually over retarded shit

he had an affair
that's the goddamn scandal
Unless they commit a crime, say something hypocritical, or are damaging the national interest, PM's private lives should remain private, just like everyone else.
He was a shit minister.
Shame this is the reason he lost the job, but he should have been out of it long ago.
NSW Labor, so much fail, even worse than Federal Labor, and that's saying a lot. Also, it's not him being gay, it's him being an amoral dipshit in a position of government power, he's obviously a quality guy *cough*. What better way to practice for telling bullshit to the populace than pulling the wool over your wife for however many years of marriage...
Also, as far as I am aware they started watching him after he couldn't be located or contacted during that huge disaster on the F3 didn't they?
To be fair he didn't have to resign. Politicians have gotten away with worse scandals becoming public.

Exactly.
If he were just walking into the club, it wouldn't be a big deal. They'd make a headline out of it just because they didn't know he was gay. The thing here is that he's visiting the club despite having two adult sons and a wife with cancer. That's what makes it a bigger deal to them. While I feel terrible whenever I see the media do this to someone, it's true that there is a scandal here.
i don't even know why an affair is a scandal anyways

every minister in this country is shit
peter garret, steven conroy :v:
This is why I hate Channel 7 god damnit, they only exist to ruin lives through their Today Tonight shit.
Homophobia strikes again.
He went to a gay bath house and his wife is battling cancer.
Sounds like a real fuckstain.
That's what he deserves for going to such a club.
That's what he deserves for going to such a club.
Oh look, one of FP's resident homophobes showed up.
He was the last guy I thought that would be gay.
Homophobia strikes again.
Yup, the world's living in the 1800's
He's a married man, entering a gay club probably is bit wrong.
NSW politics is in the shitter anyway so it;s just time for another to take his place.
oh look facepunch's resident homophobe showed up
Wait, so there is only one now? What happened to the rest of facepunch?

Good point. Allow me to rephrase that.

Let's not pretend that this is in the news because the man was married though shall we? Any heterosexual married man is unlikely to make the news for entering a club.
Christ, I hate it when investigative reporting goes the other way.
Theres always something bad happening in parliament...
What total bullshit. You shouldn't have to resign, make speeches, and have your family ruined just because of your interests.
Poor him :(
How did I know this was going to be Australia before I clicked the thread.

Just because you need to get laid because your family life sucks doesn't make you a bad politician.

In that case, entering ANY club is a bit wrong
Why specify that it's gay?
Media has no boundaries, we need some laws limiting what they can do
What the Christ makes you think going to a gay club makes you
a) gay
b) fuck everyone around you.
He could as well just chill out there with a couple of gay friends.
I don't know why people still have this very sexualized image of homosexuals. Them being more open about sex probably comes with living against all conservative dogmatics in the first place. Quite a few actually live asexual.

The article said he was going to a gay bathhouse.
Gay bathhouse = have sex.
